  1. UL Baseball Faught Named 2nd Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball

LOUISIANA La. - He began his college career as a member of the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. Last week, he was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year. Now, he can add All-American to the list.

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns senior southpaw Austin Faught was named a Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Thursday, becoming the 14th All-American in school history.

Faught, who enters the NCAA New Orleans Regional with a 12-0 record, currently leads the Sun Belt Conference with a 2.45 earned run average. He had only 10 career wins entering the 2005 season, after sitting out the 2004 season to recover from Tommy John surgery.

Faught was one of four Sun Belt Conference players named to the Collegiate Baseball All-American team. Arkansas State's Geoff Desmond was named to the Second Team, while New Mexico State's Mark Aranda and Luke Hopkins were named to the Third Team.

Last week, Faught became the third pitcher in school history to reach the 12-0 plateau in a season. Cody Robbins and Trey Poland each went 12-0 during the 1997 season.

In his first season with the Cajuns in 2003, Faught went 4-3 with a 4.08 earned run average before an injury prematurely ended his season.

"Patience is a virtue and Austin is every bit deserving this honor," Louisiana-Lafayette head coach Tony Robichaux said. "He had an All-merican attitude and work ethic.

"We leaned on him all year. Every time we dropped a game on Friday, he was

there on Saturday to pick us up and gave us every opportunity to win. He was largely responsible for giving us the chance to win a series."

Faught is the 10th All-American under Robichaux and the first All-American since 2000 when a trio of pitchers - Scott Dohmann, Justin Gabriel and Andy Gros - were named All-Americans by two different media outlets.

Dohmann was named a Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, while Gabriel received Third Team All-American honors by ABCA. Gros was a freshman All-American Honorable Mention selection by Collegiate Baseball.

That season, the Cajuns finished third at the NCAA College World Series with a 49-20 mark.

Before arriving at Louisiana-Lafayette, Faught played two seasons at the University of Houston, where in 2001, he was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team and the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.

Faught posted a 6-9 record with 133 strikeouts in 130 1/3 innings with the Cougars in two seasons.

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns begin their quest for the NCAA New Orleans Regional title Friday as the No. 3 seed against second-seeded Alabama at 6:30 p.m. t Turchin Stadium.

Fans can listen to the game on News Radio 105.1 FM KPEL in Lafayette with Jay Walker and Steve Peloquin, beginning approximately 30 minutes prior to first pitch. The game will also be broadcast by the Jumbo Sports Network and will be televised locally by KLAF-TV Channel 17.
