UL getting 2 out of 35 (almost 6% of the total) on the short list, is a very big compliment to the program.

And I think that maybe Bridges might have been close to getting an invite--at least by her stats---too bad they slumped a little in the post season!!!!!

It would have been great for Ashley to make it also, but I'm kinda happy she gets the summer to rest up a little.

  9. Default Orgeron Selected to USA National Team

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns junior outfielder Christi Orgeron was selected to the 2011 USA Softball Women's National Team as announced Friday by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball.

Oregeron is the first UL softball player to earn a spot on the USA National Team and third to compete with USA Softball, joining Alana Addison (2002 Elite team) and Brooke Mitchell (2004 Elite team). Teammate Ashley Brignac was a member of the USA Junior National Team in 2006-07.

The reigning Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and SBC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, posted a career-best .414 batting average while leading the nation with 101 RBI. That triple-digit RBI total marks the third highest single-season total in NCAA history and the highest since 1996. The junior outfielder also finished the season second in the NCAA in home runs (23) and runs scored (75).

In her three year career, Orgeron has hit 48 home runs, 51 doubles and seven triples for a .723 slugging percentage. She has 194 RBI and is a .349 career hitter. For her efforts, the New Orleans native was named a top 10 finalist for USA Softball's Player of the Year. Orgeron also earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America third team and the All-Region first team (central region).

The 18-person roster, plus one alternate, hits the road in less than a week for their first competition, a two-game exhibition series in Plant City, Fla., on Saturday, June 25.
