Thread: Why Are The Cajuns Ragin’? How To Balance Budgets At The Expense of Education

  1. Default Why Are The Cajuns Ragin’? How To Balance Budgets At The Expense of Education

Ever wonder how to get rid of tenured faculty? Kill the whole department! Any fool knows that.

That’s what they are doing at the University of Louisiana, where the Cognitive Science PhD program (the only one in the state) is being shut down and two faculty will be cut loose by 2013.

This sentence tells you everything we need to know about this blogger and her organization. She is creating a false argument, (one that is often used by faculty) in stating or insinuating that the choice is funding athletics over academia. Unless she can prove money is being diverted away from academia for athletics, it rings hollow to me. Athletics took a cut across that board last year along with academics.

It's articles like this that make me dread reading the Ragin'Pagin some days.

I didn't read any mention of athletics or even a side argument on the subject, but it is true, they often go there.

She seemed to lump UL as the UL System leader when she said “UL System and UL_Lafayette officials" but then in her next comment went on to say "the university dissolved its bachelor’s degree program in French" when that actually concerns Southeastern and not UL.

Still, to your point. If she had been given enough rope (page space) I would not have been surprised to see an athletics comparison.

It's the same thing the Advocate article did...say UL had to do this, and its their decision only, and blame blame blame...while it was really the Tucker Commission, run by Wharton and his cronies, that forced our hand.
