Folks, it is going to be tight. I think the Cajuns could be the last #2 seed in the field. And whether they get that last #2 seed could come down to the game being played right now between Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount for the West Coast Conference Tournament championship and automatic bid.
Loyola Marymount needs to win the three game series (currently tied 1-1) with Pepperdine (this is the West Coast Conference tournament format) in order to make the field of 64. If they do, yet another school will have its bubble burst as there have been a plethora of upsets in conference tournaments. But if Pepperdine wins, they could snag a #2 seed. Pepperdine won the West Coast Conference West Division and has a pRPI of 34.
Teams that are on the bubble for the bottom six #2 seeds are ...
Virginia
Winthrop
Missouri
South Carolina
Arkansas
Louisiana
Southern Mississippi
Stanford
Auburn
Pepperdine
Wichita State
With respect to the conference tournament upsets I mentioned earlier, there will be no #4 seeds with at-large bids this season. If Loyola Marymount pulls the upset over Pepperdine this afternoon, it will be yet another spot removed for teams on the bubble.
Some teams on the bubble include ... (*) indicates in my current projected field of 64
* Northwestern State
* Creighton
* North Carolina-Wilmington
* St. John's
* East Carolina
* Cal Poly
* Oklahoma
Vanderbilt
Georgia
Georgia Southern
Florida Atlantic
California Irvine
Michigan
San Francisco
