Although they are less common now as the 1-year sit out transfer rule is in effect for baseball.

And with the Ragin Cajun's softball roster now at 30 something I would wonder if potentially great players are going to want to transfer away for the same reason. If I were an incoming freshman I would count on being red shirted. I hope they know that coming in so that they can make an informed decision.

That is always a possibility, I would just say I hope not.

If I ever had the ear of a current or future player, I would say the 5 seniors this year is a good sign there is going to be a lot room for current and future signees to make their mark and get on the field very soon.

Also the Lotiefs have a good track record of getting a lot of players on the field.

There are six (6) seniors on the team for 2012. Ashley Brignac (P), Christi Orgeron (UTL), Megan Granger (IF), Paige Cormier (IF), Katie Smith (OF) and Erikka Murphy (OF). The first five red shirted during their careers. They are fifth year seniors. Erikka Murphy is the only 'true' senior.

Check the new roster for 2012 http://www.ragincajuns.com/roster.aspx?path=softball there are actually 27 girls listed. That isn't to say that when the season begins there won't be less. Season begins the second weekend of February.

The team is LOADED with experience and talent. There are seven (7) juniors.
