Thread: Louisiana Regionals ...

  1. UL Baseball Louisiana Regionals ...

Well, LSU just went two and barbecue in the SEC Tournament. The Tigers were Hochevared today. LSU will not be a national seed, but will host. It will now be interesting to see if LSU and Tulane are bracketed together for a super-regional pairing. You could see both the Cajuns and Northwestern State as #2 seeds in these regionals.

I am going to wait to do my projections until this weekend (after some of the dust settles). Many of the national seeds are still up for grabs.

Well, I posted this before I found out Northwestern State went two and barbecue in their conference tournament (at home). They are looking at a #3 seed now.

Just in the interest of the Cajuns playing someone they have not played this season, I would like to see them paired against someone new. No St. John's, Northwestern State, or Wichita State.

I would like to see a little variety as well. However, I am sure that with 5 teams from LA in the tournament, the brain trust that pairs the regionals will make sure that only 2 teams from LA have a possibility of making the CSW.

Do you think we will be sent to LSU or Tulane?

Until the conference tournament, I was definitely thinking Baton Rouge. But if the Cajuns keep sinking, it will increase the possibility that the Cajuns are in New Orleans.

I will know more this weekend when I have a chance to put the entire field together and look at all of the numbers. The number of nearby regional squads (neighboring states) will have an impact on where the Cajuns are sent.

hey Brian, what if the Cajuns come back and win the conference tourney? If I am not mistaken that would put them at 7-3 for the last 10 games. Would that be enough to be a dark horse candidate to host a regional?

No. The first requirement would be for the Cajuns to be a #1 seed. The Cajuns will not be a #1 seed. That chance withered away when they lost 3/4 to Western Kentucky.

If the Cajuns come back and win the conference tournament (five wins), that would put them at 6-4 over their last ten games. This is the best the Cajuns can finish over their last ten games. Currently the Cajuns are 5-5 in their last ten games. If the Cajuns do not win a game tomorrow, they will finish 4-6 over their last ten games. Hence, the possible range is 6-4 to 4-6.

A number two seed can host and has in the past and will probably host in the future. It all depends on what we do from here on out. We come back and win and they would have to recognize that over two and out. We have the pitchers and the others will have to wait out the rain. Good luck Cajun's.

A #2 seed will not host in the state of Louisiana this season. We knew some time ago that it would take a #1 seed to have a chance at hosting a regional.

It does not matter what the Cajuns do in the Sun Belt Tournament. They will not be a #1 seed.

As Brian has stated before the 3 losts to WKU and the lost to Nicholls al but shot our chances. Winning the conference tourney will probably get us a # 2 seed.

I understand all is irrelevant as far as regionals and seedings go, but in order for the Cajuns to win the Tourney, it will take 6 wins(Assuming they have to beat the winner in the winners bracket twice). Is this right? I am driving myself nutz trying to figure this out!

I believe once the two division winners meet up it is the winner takes all. I could be wrong but I think this is how it goes.

In looking at the brackets on sunbelt's website, it shows only one game.
