I just can't get into soccer with all the fake injuries and it is almost a miracle when they score. I'll never forget the Brazilian player getting off the stretcher giving her team a time out.
Now I can get into USA World Cup soccer played well like the women the last few weeks. We should have won that game but if we have to lose I'm glad it was to country that has gone so much like Japan.
You won't see the fake injuries on the women's side. They don't get into it like the men do.
I watched the U17 men's World Cup and those kids wouldn't touch the women. Soccer is a little different than many sports. Power is important but it isn't completely dominating. I've seen numerous CoEd teams and girls that can hang with the guys. The women's national team isn't going to beat the top men's FIFA team but the games are not that far apart.
I've got three girls that have played the game for years. So I have a different perspective. Women's sports are still very limited at the professional level. I think soccer is the one that is most viable as a professional sport that could be self sustaining on a global scale but a lot still has to happen to make that a reality.
Did you see the USA vs. Brazil? The player from Brazil looked dead on the stretcher and when she got closer to the tunnel she got up and ran into the tunnel. LOL! I'm not talking kids giving it all they got on the field. Check out the clip.

She didn't run into the tunnel. she went straight to her bench, turned and ran back on the field. She got a yellow card and three minutes was added to the game because of her laying on the ground for four minutes, which was enough time for the US team to score and tie the game. Brazil could have won that game without that fake injury. It took her a few second to fall to the ground if you notice. A big screw up by Brazil.
The dumbest thing about soccer is the clock. First of all, it runs backwards. Second, it never stops. When there are injuries(fake or real), intentional delaying, or celebrating after goals are scored, just stop the clock. The referee wouldn't just arbitrarily add time on to the end of the game, and you would know exactly how much time is left. When the clock hits 0:00, the game is over.
There's a lot to soccer that Americans just don't get, because, frankly, Americans are just too American. It's all about macho power and Rolaids and 500 foot homers and bone crushing hits and monster jams. Soccer is different. There is Art. There's more skill of a different kind. I say there's more athleticism. There were a few teams that people thought could possibly win the women's World Cup. The United States, Brazil, Sweden, England maybe. Germany. Japan is the VCU or Butler of this whole thing. Yet they won it. Now that I think about it, I think soccer became my favorite sport over these three weeks.
Don't like the fake injuries, how about when every foul is called in college or pro basketball, and the fouler throws his hands up as if to say he never does anything wrong? That's the same thing.
Not referring to anyone on this board, but in general: I believe Americans don't get soccer because they want more power. Machismo. That's what America is about. Step over the small guy. I love my country, but come on. That's what we're about, largely. No? In soccer, we can't just step over everybody with Armuchee's Moe. There's more to it than that, and us so we haven't figured out a way to overcome and prevail.
Reminds me of when the dream team lost. And lost again. And lost again. This country couldn't believe that people getting paid so much to play basketball for a living could perform so poorly together as a team. Questioned their heart. Questioned their dedication. Because there's no way any team was better than this team. Yes America, sometimes, we're not the best. We're not the champions. I know it's a boost to our eagles, but Japan is the world champions, and we lost. That doesn't make soccer ugly, any more than Lebron James is a bad basketball player because he performed so terribly in the finals. If we scored on one of our 10 opportunities in the first 30 min. of the game, we are world champions right now. That doesn't make the game ugly are boring. It amazes me that people that sit there and watch golf for hours on in can tell me that any one of those games in this tournament were boring.
sent from my android,... roids not rolaids etc etc
Might be time to turn auto complete off.
I get soccer, I just don't get women's soccer. If that makes me a chauvinist pig so be it. Why in god's good name would I watch women play a sport men dominate? I find soccer to be enthralling. It's a strategic game that makes people hold their breath anytime the ball gets near the goal. That kind of suspense is unique to soccer. I find women's soccer a poor knock off of the male equivalent. I enjoy soccer, but for ____'s sake I will never be so hard up for it that I will watch women try to play it. That's my opinion.
