MIAMI – After winning its first Sun Belt Conference baseball regular season title since 1997, it was only fitting that Louisiana-Lafayette took home the awards.

The Ragin’ Cajuns had a league-high nine players named to the All-Sun Belt Conference team, which was announced on Tuesday evening at a pre-tournament banquet prior to Wednesday’s start of the 2005 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championships.

UL Lafayette (45-15, 16-8 Sun Belt) also received two individual honors. Senior left-hander Austin Faught was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year following a perfect 11-0 regular season, while head coach Tony Robichaux was named Coach of the Year.

How does Freshman of the Year, Luke Hopkins, NMSU not make either 1st or 2nd teams and yet Jonathan Lucroy is the Designated Hitter, 2nd team and the only freshman to get any mention.

How does Freshman of the Year, Luke Hopkins, NMSU not make either 1st or 2nd teams and yet Jonathan Lucroy is the Designated Hitter, 2nd team and the only freshman to get any mention.

I think Hopkins was freshman of the year because he was a fulltime position player. But he was not strong enough to displace Hawke at first base. Lucroy had some time at Catcher, but played a lot of DH and hit well enough to make the All-Conference team at DH.

Hopkins #'s were also a little better but he is a redshirt freshman thus being a little stronger and not a true freshman. Number's were better due to a lot of game in the thin air @ Los Cruces.
