Thread: Ragin' Cajuns nail down Sun Belt crown

  1. UL Baseball Ragin' Cajuns nail down Sun Belt crown

For a few briefs moments on Saturday, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun baseball team celebrated.

A dogpile on Western Kentucky's Nick Denes Field after an 11-1 victory over the Hilltoppers gave coach Tony Robichaux's club a chance to relish the program's first regular season Sun Belt Conference championship since 1997.

But once the hugs ceased, it was all business again for the Cajuns (45-14, 16-7) in Robichaux's mind.

"The season's not over yet,'' said Robichaux shortly after the victory in the nightcap that followed a 14-5 Western Kentucky win in game one on Saturday.

That's literally true with the regular season finale on tap at 1 p.m. today in Bowling Green, Ky.

It's the Sun Belt Conference Tournament beginning Wednesday in Miami, Fla., and then the NCAA Regionals the following week that's weighing heavy on Robichaux's mind.

"We're still playing for the seeding,'' Robichaux said. "We've got to remember that. We also want to raise our RPI.''

One thing Robichaux isn't concerned with is senior left-hander Austin Faught, who improved to 11-0 after giving up a run on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings. Andy Gros was the last Cajun pitcher to win 11 games.
