Thread: Return of the "Cannabis Kings?"

  1. #1

I have a Question Return of the "Cannabis Kings?"

I stumbled across this post on the Delphi Forums....It speaks of M. Southall and C. Williams returning to play basketball. Hmmmmmmmmmm....Is this true? Or is R. Briscoe, Southeast Regional Basketball & serbb.com, looking for attention?

See Southall & Williams News: http://forums.delphiforums.com/Ragin...s/?msg=17598.1

No , it is quite true. Things are in the preliminary stages for both, but the proverbial ball is rolling for Southall for sure - Williams is more of aquestion mark.

Not that I doubt your word, but is your inside info from the coaching staff, or other sources. After their latest run ins this would seem unlikely.

OK, I'll admit it. While a true Cajun fan, basketball is not my favorite sport. I find the news of the potential return of Southall and Williams very ironic. This "story" is being released less than 24 hours after a meeting was held on how to raise funds for the basketball team.

Now there should be a meeting called entitled "How Not to Raise Money for Basketball: The Saga of a Center"

What could the Basketball program do to encourage the support of the community to allow the return of M. Southall? I'm so curious to see how this all pans out! Could be a bad decision or gamble....or it could be a trip to the sweet 16...we shall see! Kinda like the football player who was problematic...on his third strike...he got a "contract".

There has been no official news release from the staff or the athletic department on Williams and Southall's status. The only truth to Briscoe's post , is that the door has not been completely closed on either to return. There is the legal matter that must be resolved in both cases. The rumor is that Williams will take the hit on the possession charge and plea. Southall supposedly will be cleared of any wrong doing in this matter. The bottomline is that coach Lee and his staff should get the beneift of doubt in this matter. But no decision has been made and nothing will be decided anytime soon. We should be talking the new additions to the program and the fact the this squad has the higher gpa this semester.

I agree with the latter portion of your post, Guru, but I, also, believe in the old adage "where there is smoke, there is fire". Should this take place the General better have his "damage control" experts ready to put out the fires of discontent.

We have to remember that this latest incident happened while they were not part of the team, hence the crack in the door for a possible return, in my opinion. I talked w/ Gen. Lee at the meeting on Thurs. and he was convinced that if we beat Louisville(Orien staying in the game), then we make a serious run at the Elite 8, by knocking out GTech and UW.
I would not let this MS/CW fiasco deter from the positive momentum that will continue. The next meeting will be June 9 @ 5:30 and hopefully we can double the # of people from the first meeting. I'm more pumped up about BBall than I ever have been as a result of this meeting. As DaddyCajun said, Gerald has many more things in the works that he wouldn't spill the beans on until he is 100% sure of. All of this improvement and fundraising will be alot easier when football turns the corner - THIS YEAR!!

P.S. Basketball lockerrooms need SERIOUS attention NOW - Priority #1

Okay the way I see it is that if the two come back to the program and the other recruits that we have acquired in the past weeks pan out we could have a great basketball team next year. I agree if it's true that Coach Lee says if Green stays in the game we make a run that people would still be talking about even now. But I personally am tired of ifs.

I can't wait for Bball season to get here next year and the excitement that goes with going to the games.

On another note is there an email newsletter that the athletic department can put together so the public could find some official information.

Let's worry about who is on the active current roster and not about players that can potentialy be on the roster.

I just feel General Lee is playing with fire. What difference does it make that these two immature, selfish individuals were not part of the team. Both were at one time. To worsen matters, Southall, had he taken the opportunity to straighten himself, could have really helped the team. I don't know, I just can't convince myself that russian roulette is being played with these two.

What irritates and concerns me the most is that this is being revived at a time when support for BB is on the table.

I have to believe that if these two guys are allowed to play....It will be interesting! First...like one other poster stated...anticipate damage control! Do not let these two start....Second...If they violate a rule....Kick their butts to the wind! We have nothing to lose by allowing them to return....or not allowing them to! We will be just fine!
