Thread: Return of the "Cannabis Kings?"

i don't know what the big deal is. if you all remember, southall is about as dominant a player as any we have ever had at louisiana. many teams gamble with troubled players and still come out on top, and most importantly, we are not counting on them for all the marbles. look how georgetown gambled with allen iverson. i promise you that their program benefitted both financially and on the court because of that gamble (which was much greater than our potential one). we have talent, but we should always look to improve on it. after all, who knows more about our team, our needs, and our potential players than coach lee. trust your leader and success will follow.

I trust coach lee and whatever he does I will support but what a lot of people don't want is for this team to fall back to that thug image that we had for a few years.
And although he was dominent he never got us to a NCAA tourny so we will see where this situation goes.

Manizzle, you clearly don't know anything about the history of this program. First,Southall is not nearly one of the most dominant players ever to wear the Cajun uniform. Second, Southall wasn't convicted of just smoking a joint. He was convicted for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and served time. That being said, I will give this coaching staff the benefit of the doubt. They have earned it!

Ragin' Cajuns Re: Return of the "Cannabis Kings?"

Love him or hate him...M. Southall may still be in the picture!

: Lee left the door ajar for the return of Southall, who is scheduled to be in summer school at UL.

"It depends on what happens with his latest troubles," Lee said. "We'll make the decision from there. There may be some new light on the charges he's facing."

I have to admit that I do not know much at all about basketball, but I do love the Cajuns, no matter what the sport. Althought I do not know the General, I have been very impressed so far in the way that he has handled the program. He has instilled discipline in the team as well as a respect for the University and the community in which it sits. But I will be very disappointed if these two criminals are let back on the team. I am all for second chances, but not 3rd, 4th or 5th etc......

I'll be the first to admit when I see I did something wrong, and I do believe I was wrong with regard to Southall. Since he was dismissed of the charges put against him, I believe he should be given the same chance he had before the incident with Williams. As for Williams, I think he should be dismissed and you should close the book on him.

When did the dismissal occur, and where there any reasons given for doing so?

From my understanding, the charges against MS were dropped. I think that IF MS gets let back on the General's team, he will not be allowed to pull any stupid s***. If he does, he will be dismissed from the team. I trust the General's decision, whatever it is, will be in the best interest of the program.

As to all of the potential "negative publicity" for letting him back on the team, there is also "positive publicity" in order if he is let back on the team, cleans up his act, and flourishes. But with this kid...who knows? Both sides of this argument have valid points. I am interested to see how the situation pans out.

And Mike...for the love of God...STAY OVER 100 YARDS AWAY FROM ANYONE THAT YOU MIGHT THINK, COULD POSSIBLY SMOKE HERB.

I trust Coach Lee to make the right decision and if he feels these two should be given another chance then that is good enough for me.
Worst case scenario is that they screw up again and they are gone.
I happen to think Southall on a bad night is a dominant force. I have only heard radio broadcastsseen him play but have been told that he is a difference maker

I'm just glad that we have Coach Lee as our leader, because who knows what the hell would happen with this situation if Jessie Evans was still the coach (look at the way he handled his son's problems on the team. Not much threat of being kicked off). This is just from what I can remember.

Oh Guy mod! Jessie Evans son is probably the reason Michael Southall didn't rehabilitate the first time around.
