Cajuns bounce back with another 20+ hit game
Good answer.
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team had less than 18 hours to bounce back from having its collective heads handed to them by Middle Tennessee in Friday's 10-1 loss.
It took a while - over five and one-half hours, to be exact - but the Cajuns did exactly what coach Tony Robichaux challenged them to do and evened up their weekend Sun Belt Conference series with a 16-3 pasting of the Blue Raiders.
"It was important for us, after the type of loss we had the night before," said Robichaux, whose club moved within one-day range of locking up the Sun Belt title. "It was a long day, and I'm proud of the way our guys handled a long day."
The Cajuns (43-12, 14-6 Sun Belt) had to endure two different rain delays that totaled well over two hours, but UL's bats rained on Middle Tennessee to the tune of 23 hits. The Cajuns got five hits in three different innings.
"They came out and put it to us last night," said UL senior outfielder John Coker. "It hurt getting beat like that. We needed to let them know that we weren't going to go anywhere."
The win evened the weekend series heading into today's 1 p.m. finale, which is also the final regular-season home appearance for the Cajuns. Pre-game activities to honor 16 senior players and a mini-graduation ceremony for three players earning degrees will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Today's game also provides UL with an opportunity to reach a goal in front of the home crowd. A Cajun victory, coupled with a New Mexico State loss to Arkansas-Little Rock, would lock down a share of the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt postseason tournament.
