Thread: What is the best game ever played at Cajun Field

  1. Default Re: What is the best game ever played at Cajun Field

I'm not sure what I game I would rank #1

The "best game ever played" should be a somewhat balanced win, with offense, defense and special teams all doing their fair share to generate the win.

The Texas A&M win (for me) is weighted to heavily on turnovers to get top rank on "best game ever played"

I'm OK with calling it "best win" at The Swamp.

One of the best games ever occurred in 1976 against LA Tech. In Roy Henry's junior year he led a comeback from being down 26 to 10 to being victorious with a score of 31 to 26. I may have gotten the scores there off by a few points but they are in the ballpark.

The best win I've ever seen at the swamp was definitely the K-State win, but I only really started following when I started going to college in 2002. For me though, regardless of venue, the 2006 Houston win on the road is the most amazing win I've ever watched in person. That was also the best team that the Cajuns have beaten since I started watching them, that Houston team was loaded with talent.

There were 2 things that made that win extra satisfying, 1) they had beaten us the previous 5 years in a row and 2) they were the sorry S.O.B.'s that turned us in for so the called ineligible player that cost us the Conference Championship and an Independence Bowl game.

The games at Tulane were the best away games we had. Sure wish we could start that series again. Doesn't matter if we play 3 for 1. It was like a home game for us anyway and the tailgating in the Dome was unbelievable. _
A great game and great pass---as I understand it we ran the play earlier and the safety bit hard to break it up ---this time it was the fake!!!! Only bad was Sonny Roy dying of a heart attack during the game--what a wonderful human being!!!!

It was the aTm game for me. I brought some A&M fans I worked with and there just wasn't ever an atmosphere at Cajun Field like the one at the end of that game. The funny thing is... and I am not one to be easily impressed by momentary events... I seriously thought there was no way we weren't going to launch football full throttle and throw everything we had into it. Our top dog felt like it was a pinnacle and just decided to keep it that way.

People that don't like our "money games"... wait until Hud upsets one of these programs... and he will... you'll be very glad we took these guys on. It just isn't that impossible to stay competitive and slip in a win on some of them... when your program is seriously confident.

Otherwise... and they were not at Cajun Field... the "electricity" type games to me were the ones with Tulane in the Dome (both Mitchell and Delhomme era). Technically, they were "home games". More Cajun fans piled in with a good time on the brain than I've seen in a long, long time.

The Tulane games in the dome were my absolute best memories from when I was in college. That first win against them was an unbelievable feeling.

Just now seeing this thread, so I'll throw my .02 in late.

    1. McNeese in 2007
    2. WKU for HC in 2010
    3. North Alabama in 1997....nuff said there.
    4. MT for HC in 2006 when coming back home with a 4-2 record and a HUGE road win @ Houston and @ FAU on Nat'l TV.
    5. Houston in 2003 when the rain started right as the band was beginning the Nat'l Anthem and they never made it to the end it was raining so hard.
    6. 1997-2000

For atmosphere, the Texas A&M game and the game against Southern were probably tops. We'd list McNeese in this category had we not laid an egg.

I don't know if anything will ever beat the 82 game against Northeast.

The Mitchell finale and the game against KState would be right behind in my opinion.

I didn't see the Roy Henry game against Tech, but if I had, my guess is I would list it as well.
