Hey "traynham" is Maurice capable of contesting for a starting position against the likes of another player named D. Mitchell? Or...are you unfamiliar with our roster....

B-more Kareful is coming to louisiana lafayette to run the show, he could have went to university of maryland and battled for that point guard spot. But he liked the chance of winning in the NCAA with UL than Maryland (his home state). Maurice will make things happened and he handles the ball very well. Look to see his turnover-assist ratio on blinn's site. He will have better around him and some good shooters like D. Mitchell. He could have never left baltimore to play behind someone. B-more kareful is a very good catch. His senior year in high school , he won player of the year in the state of maryland and baltimore city over the likes of uconn's rudy gay, josh boone and georgia's levi stukes. I like the community of lafayette already and I never been there. Coming in town in july, 2005

  6. UL Basketball Maurice Barksdale signs with Louisiana

The Cajuns got their point guard after all.

Blinn College standout Maurice Barksdale has signed with Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns, aiming to provide the same type of leadership Orien Greene showed in helping the Cajuns to two straight Sun Belt Conference men's basketball titles.

When Glen Oaks guard Ryan Francis recently backed out of his verbal commitment to sign with Southern California, coach Robert Lee and his UL coaching staff simply switched gears and got back in touch with Barksdale.

"They had been talking to me for quite a while," Barksdale said. "They actually recruited me at the end of my freshman year (at Blinn) before I decided to go back to school.

"Then they got a commitment from a high school guard (Francis). I guess when he backed out, they started recruiting me again."

Barksdale comes to the Cajuns with solid credentials.

He was the Player of the Year in Baltimore and the Maryland Player of the Year as a senior at renowned Dunbar High School as a senior in 2003, averaging 24 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and five steals per game.

At Blinn, the 5-foot-11 guard averaged 15.6 points and 5.6 assists as a freshman and 19 points and 6.0 assists last season.

"The thing that impresses you about Maurice is his intelligence," said Aaron Traynham of Charm City Hoops scouting service in Baltimore. "He's one of the smartest players you'll see. He understands the game. He thinks the game.

"He also knows what his teammates can do on the court, and he puts them in a situation to do what they do best. This year at Blinn, he had a teammate who shot a high percentage coming off a screen, and Maurice got him the ball right where it needed to be. Another teammate needed a couple of seconds to set up, so he would drive, draw in the other team and then dish off."

Make sure the coaching staff stays in touch with Barksdale's mentor (Robert Wise). He helps alot of Baltimore's basketball players position themselves academically and athletically to get recruited by successful programs. Maurice is a great introduction to a pipeline to Baltimore. Robert Wise was my source of information about Maurice and probably East Coast's source as well.

Good Luck to UL and Maurice, I will make it to at least one game this upcoming season to support the Ragin Cajuns!

ROUX is certainly where we hope Recruiting news ends up....eventually.

However we usually pass any news of note through the RagePage while it is real active before going to the ROUX.
