    UL Baseball Latest Regional Projections

    Brian,

I am confused. I just looked on SEbaseball.com and saw the latest regional projections for May 3. They have us going to Knoxsville. My question is, why would Tennessee be hosting if our RPI is higher than theirs? Our RPI is 19 and Tennessee's is 28. Any explanation would be appreciated.

If they dip out of the top 16, follow the money.

    Just a guess.

Because there will not be three regionals in one state. so LSU and Tulane getting one means we are left out.

I agree, but I suspect that is based on all things being equal.

Lets say (hypothetically) Louisiana put in the highest overall bid, I bet they would waive the unwritten 2 bid per state rule.

Because these are "regionals". Regional Host bids are not, and have never been, awarded solely based on the strength of the squad. Although, this is the dominant criteria. Geography is a major consideration. There simply are not enough schools in the #2 -> #4 seed range within reasonable proximity to Lafayette to warrant three Louisiana regionals. If there were, I do think you would see an exception. Too many schools would need to be shipped in to Lafayette if the NCAA were to award the Cajuns a regional in Mark's bracket. Also keep in mind that the RPI is only a tool used by the committee. It is not the final say in assessing the strength of teams.

If the LSU, Tulane, and UL were all national seeds, you would see three Louisiana regionals. But simply being a #1 seed does not give you the right to host. Else, they would not be called regionals.

UL's chances of hosting hinge on how LSU does in its final nine conference games and how the Cajuns finish the season. It will be Baton Rouge or Lafayette.

This is not the reason. California has had three regionals twice since the new format commenced in 1999. The state of Texas held *four* regionals in 1999 and Austin was not one of them. It is possible in the future that the state of Florida could host three regionals if there were to be enough nearby schools in the tournament. Location of the tournament participants plays a large part in determining how many regionals a particular region of the country is awarded.

There is no such thing as the unwritten two bid per state rule.

Which ever place we go I believe that they will not be happy playing us so early, They would rather play many other teams in the first round before the Cajuns.

Well as long as LSU A&M keeps losing to teams like Southern, could see their pRPI dip just a lil too low to be able to be awarded with the second host site in Louisiana.

    You're right.

Bur what scares me, is that we lost to Little Rock and are down to Sam Houston in the first game. We can not afford to lose anymore this season. I hate to have to rely on LSpuke.
