Thread: The Book: 2007 Football

  1. Default Looking back: O'Leary players have to win their job each week in practice.

Guess Knights Coach George O'Leary was right by saying he likes to keep each position competitive.

O'Leary replaced his usual punter and placekicker with walk-ons in the first half Saturday.

Robert Batista kicked a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter instead of Michael Torres, who kicked two extra points on UCF's late second-quarter touchdowns.

Parker Langley punted for Blake Clingan, who leads Conference USA with an average of 45.5 yards per punt.

Players have to win their starting jobs each week in practice, O'Leary says.

I for one don't care. Didn't even watch the game. Already knew the outcome. Already know the outcome of next Sat game as well.

    Anybody want the answer?

But the really, really bad part of all of this is................

We have at least another year of it.

I guess you don't go to a game unless you know we are gonna WIN. Houdini, please tell us the future of 2009. Just kidding, We lose totally when you GIVE UP Supporting. Been a Supporter since '66, so don't give up, just keep supporting. HOw are young men going to want to come play for us if they know we don't support a team WIN or LOSE. Think about it. I am frustrated too. Just look at what happened this weekend, 6 of the top 15 lost.

I watched the game on the Internet. Saw effort from most but still losing. Are our players that much less skilled than other teams. Will be at the game next week, but for sure parking, concessions, and the restrooms will NOT be a problem.

Our Defense is the problem, they can't stop anyone. I am wondering if we should have kept our old D coordinator.

Offense has no problem getting decent drives, and scoring.

This is so COOL Re: I guess it is a new low...

Perhaps people (many, but not all) are quiet this week because we were not expected to win this game. Perhaps people are quiet this week because there was an increase in individual efforts across the board. I would imagine that if North Texas is a debacle, we'll hear from everyone and their brother....but in the meantime, don't pull the plug on this team if we lose to UCF, Tennessee and Troy...especially without Fenroy and Fisher. I think North Texas can be a ray of hope....let's see what happens.

The only think that we've proved to date is that we haven't turned the corner and we're pretty dang far from being "special".
No one in media said this year would be "special". Just about everyone predicted us to go 5 and 7. I agree last year was supposed to be the one that turned the corner.

  8. UL Football Good luck for the rest of your season, and thanks for coming if you made the trip

Thank you to the Ragin' Cajun fans who made it to the game. I hope you were treated well by our fans (I know that some of the students who've been hitting the liquid moron juice can be rude).

The pre and post game weather was a bit of a challenge, but somehow we amazingly escaped a downpour during the game... guess someone somewhere made the right sacrifice to the football gods.

Best of luck with the rest of your season. There's still a lot of football to be played.

    Thanks Laurie

UL is often the team that gets the blocked kick to end a half. Congrats on turning the table.

It was not fun, have a great rest of 2007

It could be worse. We could be Notre Dame.

If I had to pinpoint the areas where our recruiting has been absolutely atrocious the last several years it would have to be:

    #1 LB

    #2 OL

Now, Fleming and Davis are going to be some solid LB's in the future, but the reason we are so weak on defense is because our front 7 lacks athleticism.

As far as the OL is concerned, pass protection is not their strongsuit and athleticism is an issue there as well.

Like Scott Brazda was saying in the post game...if your unhappy with what is going on and you think change needs to be made email David Walker and let him know how you feel. Regardless of how you feel let him know. If you feel Bustle needs another year or if you think he needs to go now, let him know. But please if your going to email the man make an intelligent one and not just a rant on how bad the program sucks.

I will support this team till the end but I am starting to believe that a change is needed. I really like Rickey and think he was the right person to get us out of the hole that Baldwin left us in but I don't know if he can get us any further than he already has. Some people will mention the money and say we can't buy it out but people if this school is serious about football then they need to step up and prove it. Sure the money issue is big but if the only reason they don't make a change is because of the money then that is accepting lossing and that is unacceptable.

I'll be at Cajun Field next week early because I guess I like the punishment. I will be in my usual spot on the first row of the students section near the 40 and I will cheer like we are 5-0 right now because this is my team and I'll be there regardless.
