Therefore, any time we are in a slump or there is unhappiness in the results, there are going to be people that say "we should have recruited so and so from Lafayette High or Crowley or Opelousas, look how good he's been at x D1AA school."

You are going to hear this from us (and I will include myself) bellyaching fans, because we have an itch and just don't know how else to scratch it. Sometimes, the local recruit that we passed on, would have made a fine addition. I personally leave it to the coaching staff, who get paid to spend a lot of time evaluating talent, specifically for their program. And although I am a certified paying fan and have every right to blather... I think they know better.

Some folks on here, like everyone else who finds themselves in our boat, are searching for answers. The "local recruiting" issue has always been a hot button to push. The only way that is going to stop is if we start having undefeated seasons.

I do understand your frustration... it appears as though the local talent criticism is directed at the out of area team members... not the case. It is just a bellyaching tool. We love everyone who contributes to the success of this program, and even those who only wish they could. _
Local talent does probably bring in a fan base as well and that is totally understandable. Louisiana does produce a large amount of talent, no question. I just think we should get the best from where ever we can. Start winning and the masses will come. Thanks for addressing my question. Looking forward to Saturday!!

to get this back on track a bit

I think Hundley realized the new offense/offensive coordinator was not suitable to his specific skills and that his time at UL was going to be a dead end. Couple that with the fact that Morel apparently passed/was passing him on the depth chart and Hundley figured it was time to go somewhere else. All of this BS about abandoning your team and whatever is hollow when he is the 3rd string QB and he has zero chance of seeing the field. He is responsible for himself, he has 5 years to play 4 seasons and if he isnt going to be happy here, then the best thing is to leave.

I wish him well, and hope he finds success somewhere else

Why in the world would we want this thread to stay on track, when none of the others do?

I say if Hundley is still on the team, give him a shot at Troy, something they have not seen, BUT our O-Line better decide to block for 4 quarters and focus so as to not create the yellow flag toss syndrome again!!

It also takes a lot of time and effort to play football.

Maybe he realized that it wasn't worth his time to stay on the team in a situation where he was never going to start. Most people don't come to play sports at UL just to wear the jersey. He's not Rudy.

I'm not saying he should or shouldn't have left the team, but give me a break with General Patton and courage and Cajuns football. Patton was a war hero. Whether or not someone decides to stick around and hold a clipboard has nothing to do with General Patton, war or courage.

He is a Sophomore. 2+ years left. Nobody said he was gonna hold the clipboard for 2+ years, and much like life football doesn't guarantee anyone anything. Was he lied to and promised he would start no matter what as a Sophomore?

I believe the generals statement holds for more than just war. Obviously the consequences of Hunley quitting are not that of a soldier quitting---and I never even came close to saying they were. But please also note I am not the one who attached that quote to a post on a football forum.

"Maybe he realized that it wasn't worth his time to stay on the team in a situation where he was never going to start. Most people don't come to play sports at UL just to wear the jersey. He's not Rudy."

You are right, Rudy had more moral courage than Hunley. And so do every one of the other UL backups who didn't get into the game, and who ALSO probably didn't come to school with the intention of not playing. Quit before, or quit after the season....not during.

It's just a game. I'm sure he is a nice guy. I just think he made a mistake quitting on his team just because the going got rough.

And what would he have lost for sticking out the rest of the season? Is he transferring somewhere and starting immediately? Does he get this year back since he didn't take a snap? I'm not sure of the rule.

I too wish him well, and am sorry things didn't work out for him here. My only beef is in his quitting in the middle of the season, particularly after such a dismal loss. I'm not sure about NCAA regs, but it doesn't seem to me that leaving the team in mid-season vs. after the season would make any difference to his eligibility.

he would be eligible one calender year from the day he enrolled in another D-1A school

so technically he could play next year. If he goes 1-AA he is immediately eligible
