Hey, we're averaging approx 28,500 per game so far this year! We're on a record pace & have not even won a game yet. I think this makes Cajun fans some of the best in the nation! Just think what wins would do. Stay positive, the potential here is fantastic.

    Default number crunching vs Troy

so i heard some interesting stats about troy so i decided to do some comparisons, here goes

    Rushing offense:
UL, national ranking:21, 228 ypg, 685 total, 4.77 yards per carry, but only 3 rushing tds
    Troy, national rank: 79, 129 ypg, 389 total, 3.7 ypc, 7 tds

    passing offense:
UL, national rank: 99(t), 160.7 ypg, 482 yards total, 4tds
Troy, national rank: 22, 295 ypg, 885 total, 5 tds

    Rush Defense:
UL, National rank: 98, 207 ypg, 623 total, 8 tds
    Troy, national rank: 119, 285 ypg, 855 total, 10tds

    Pass defense:
    UL, national rank: 55, 217 ypg, 653 total, 4tds
    troy, national rank: 43, 194 ypg, 584 total, 5tds

troy stands 1-2 losing to arkansas and florida, but winning against oklahoma state.

UL stands 0-3 losing to South Carolina, Ohio, and Mcneese

troy's schedule is definitely tougher, but we have played close games against south carolina and ohio

arkansas beat troy but lost to alabama, florida has beat WKU, troy and tennessee, oklahoma state beat FAU but lost to troy and georgia

south carolina has beat UL, georgia, and south carolina state, ohio has beat UL, gardner-webb, but lost to virginia tech

arkansas has the number 4 ranked rush offense, 104 pass offense, 63 rush defense, 96 pass defense

florida has the number 15 rush offense, 24 pass offense, 6 rushing defense, 71 pass defense

oklahoma state has the 42 rush offense, 68 pass offense, 40 rush defense, 93 pass defense

south carolina has the 39 rush offense, 77 pass offense, 92 rush defense, 6 pass defense

ohio has the 76 rush offense, 84 pass offense, 78 rush defense, 97(t) pass defense

so what do i make of all these numbers? troy has the worse run defense in the country to date, that works in our favor, our pass offense is near the bottom that works in troys favor. looks like it may rain saturday, that would definitely give us an advantage. while we sit at 0-3, troy is only a game better at 1-2. the spread on the game is less than 10 last time i heard, in troys favor but the line has moved in our favor nearer the end of the week. while we are 0-3, we can still win 6 games or better so long as we dont fall apart. This week will be the test, i think we may upset troy this week and start us down the right path into sun belt play. anybody else wish to share any interesting numbers please feel free.

  6. UL Football It's not time for change at UL ... yet

The radio talk shows, the Internet chat rooms, and the calls and letters to the newspaper offices have been in overdrive mode since last Saturday.

Even before the final horn at Cajun Field, one that mercifully ended UL's 38-17 loss to McNeese State, head coach Rickey Bustle, the Ragin' Cajun football staff and the UL players were being called out by legions of fans with access to phones or keyboards.

Fortunately for the under-siege UL family, athletic director David Walker isn't one for knee-jerk reactions.

"We're only three games into the season," Walker said Tuesday. "I haven't even talked to Rickey. You don't do that at this point."

The Cajun football squad is 0-3, but they've been here before. To be exact, six times in the last 10 seasons. This is, however, the first time in four years that UL has opened a season with three straight losses.

  7. UL Football Looking Forward: (Fans Only) UCF's O'Leary a master of spy games

ORLANDO - Usually several times a game, the opposing team will break the huddle, and before they can even run the play, University of Central Florida head coach George O'Leary is alerting his defense as to whether it will be a run or pass.

And a lot of the time, O'Leary can guess which direction the play will flow and even pinpoint the very gap for which it is designed.

O'Leary's secret? Hours and hours of video study and analyzing opposing teams' tendencies with computer-assisted breakdowns. And, no, this isn't some sort of Bill Belichick hidden-camera chicanery that O'Leary is using.

O'Leary has become so adept at reading presnap probabilities based on formations that's he's even developed his own terminology for alerting his players as to whether the play will be a run or pass.

"We'll be over there screaming when we pick up on something," said O'Leary, smiling like the cat that just ate the canary. "We'll yell Reno, Reno, Reno for runs and Vegas for pass. Why Vegas? Because that's the money downs."

  8. UL Football Opponent View: Defending champs Troy opens Sun Belt play at Louisiana

The losses to Arkansas and Florida don't matter anymore.

Neither does the 41-23 blowout of Oklahoma State.

What matters right now is Saturday evening when Troy kicks off against UL-Lafayette in the Trojans' first defense of their Sun Belt crown. A repeat is on the mind and in the heart of each of these players. But it won't be easy.

"The Sun Belt gets better and tougher every year," said Troy coach Larry Blakeney. "The road is tough in this league."

The challenge now is for the Trojans to keep from letting down, especially after a huge win in the previous week.

It's happened before. In 2004, Troy won back-to-back games against Marshall and Missouri. Then the Trojans headed to New Mexico State, where the Aggies topped the Trojans in the final minutes of Troy's first-ever Sun Belt game.

Well well well... Who says the UL Athletic Department is not connected.....

First we have Stevie P... Just moments after the game "I know a lot of you fans...... oh so condescending) are going to be angry and be calling for the coach's head, but it is not time yet... We can't give up on the team or the team will give up also"... In other words I am above this pettiness.... And thus the media onslaught had begun

Then came Jay's show and I must admit I caught only the very end... I caught him reading an email "probably the most LEVEL HEADED note I have received since the game last Saturday" the great one pontificated... The email was much more of the message that Stevie had begun on Saturday night.... Something to the effect of (and I paraphrase here.. I know BOP loves to nit pic when you missquote exactly what was said) "I dont know what the fans expected... McNeese was highly ranked in 1-AA andlook at what has been happening around football with the likes of App State"

And now the media has come full circle with Danny boy..... Pulling out the old "We don't have any money" column... I think I have seen that one after every football game of any meaning.... Plus of course he adds the nice little table showing the other 1-AA wins over 1-A (sorry Im not used to the new classifications yet) to let us know we are not alone here....

And we all thought that the AD had no connections?? I am impressed with your ability to spin a message Mr AD.... Your boys in the media have taken the bait and running... Time for a special lunch buffet.... You know... Just you and the boys...............

What is the word on Fenroy? If he is not available, will Wallace get all of the touches or will we use multiple backs?

    Default Fuel for the Competition

Sunday Night the 24 hour virus was gone. I realized we had lost to a D1-AA team that suprised me and won the game on team effort. We lost to McNeese, I have another name for them, but WE LOST. Let's get on and SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM WIN OR LOSE or we will not be able to compete in the future.

If you look at all this chatter about firing the coaching staff and so on. all this has done is give FUEL to the other college coaching staff to use against us in the recruiting WAR. Instead we should be showing the rest of the state we support our University Win or Lose. I hate losing to state schools but I love my UNIVERSITY even MORE.

We don't continue to support this athletic program and the UL haters have WON. As we all know, their are certain programs in this state that would love to see us drop to D1-AA and then not only football would suffer but all the sports would suffer. It's not only Football that is important to this athletic program but look at all the baseball, softball, and b'ball rivalries we have in the SUNBELT. DO YOU REALLY THINK DROPPING TO D1-AA IS GONNA HELP US IN THE FUTURE. Do you really think firing our Head Football coach is a good idea. NOPE. SO LET'S GET ON WITH OUR LIVES AND SUPPORT THIS UNIVERSITY AND SO WE CAN SHOW THE OTHER SCHOOLS WE BELIEVE ITS GONNA GET BETTER.

Thats why we cannot build a fan base beyond 18-20 thousand.
