Thread: The Book: 2007 Football

  1. UL Football Only So Much can be said.

The sun will come up tomorrow just like it did today. We will work like we do everyday. I love the move by TuffGuy84 calling me out on a thread. You also know that I cant reply to many of the "wonderful" things being said or things that have been said. Yes the name of the group name is a bad one. It WAS a group made a long time ago and has no activity since its making. It was a group for us hence the members must be invited. That is pretty much all i can say about that. Oh by the way if we didn't love it, the game, why would we give our bodies our time and our life everyday to getting better and working harder than they day before. Just cause you don't see it, emotion, on our faces doesn't mean we don't feel it in our hearts. If we didn't love it we wouldn't be here.
Its a NINE game Season and game one is Troy.

I would of put Des at fullback with fenroy at tailback and Hundley at QB and run a pro style offense. But Bustle is so ____in stuck on this offens eits pathetic.

But you can scrap that idea since Hundley is gone..

Dude, look. I understand fans (fanatics - hence the term fans) can go over board sometimes, and can be assumptious, and maybe a little dramatic.. But c'mon.. First of all, this program has never prided itself on discipline. And I, being a student, know alot of the players on the team, and I actually went to school with a few before college. Fun guys, but not exactly model citizens; not to mention extremely immature. They were in HS, and they are today; sophmores and juniors at the next level. And while I realize that you guys' jobs are not to go out and be role models, attitude reflects leadership, in ALL arenas of life.

About the group: We live in a myspace society. I understand its absurd to take anything posted up on internet groups seriously, but for the starting safety of your football team to create such a group.. You've got to admit, its not exactly the best way to show school spirit. I bet Craig Stetlz doesn't have an 'LSWHO' group down in BR, with all the football players being members..

So are you saying you like going to the upper echelon schools and getting our butts waxed to just get a payday? Hope you enjoy the Tennessee game this year.

I think I understood what you were trying say. My answer would still be similar. I also understand Ohio & Umass are "FBS". But they are not BCS schools. I would consider UL more along the lines of those schools rather than BCS schools, but still in "FBS". And, yes, it does have to do with so-called "big-time" vs. "small-time" considerations. I just don't get why we are constantly getting asked this question. Has anybody asked Michigan, or better yet, Rice, if they should drop down after losing to an "FCS" team? Just because our program has been deplorable the last half of 2006 season and the last 2 games this year doesn't mean we should just say "the hell with it". Let's get it fixed right and move on.

When is it time for UL to win some of those games against some of those lower teams in those BCS conferences?

BTW one of the teams in the "even worse" conference lost to a 1-AA team as well!

I too, was disappointed in your loss.

Talked to RaisingCajun from Tennessee on Saturday evening as LSU was administering a butt-whipping on us, and he sounded kind of down.

We had our second largest crowd ever at MT about 5 years ago against lowly Southeast Missouri State, a team that I had bragged on the message boards that we'd beat by 50.

Wrong.......the 1-aa program and former Ohio Valley Conference mate upset us.

All I'm saying is........ what comes around goes around. I am predicting a Cajun victory over Troy this weekend. They are very beatable and are coming off of a big upset, and your guys' backs are up against the wall.

Your players need/deserve the support, and you folks know as much as I, a season cannot be judged by one game. And PLEASE do not commence to calling other Cajun folks names and start "hating" other fans, like some at MT have done through the Andy McCollum firing, etc. We are still a divided fanbase. It is not healthy. Your are ALL in this together.

Keep your heads up and things will get better when you least suspect it.

Hell, we at MT have now lost 6 straight dating back to last season.

Have fun, but most importantly, stick with your team through thick and through thin. I know you will.

Best of Luck, and beat the snot out of Condom State !!

I think you are spot on on your estimations, sir. There is no way that McNeese somehow recruited a "bevy of talent better than UL." Every year our coaches have to recruit against the 1-A schools, like UL, that consistently play the 1-A "card" against us. Everyone knows that 1-AA football is where dreams go to die; all you have to do is ask 1-A coaches. And, therein came the "supersized can of attitude" from our players. When one is consistently told that you are not good enough for 1-A football, your are undersized, not fast enough, ad infintum you bring a certain amount of "rage against the system." UL fans got a good glimpse of that rage Saturday night.

In the past year, I have watched McNeese supporters work their butts off to raise money to buy new equipment, improve facilities, and truly have a "buy in" into the program because we want these kids to succeed. There were many times this summer when fans drove by the McNeese fieldhouse and found the parking lot full of cars and these kids running spints and stadiums in 110 degree heat indices. In fact nearly the entire football team showed up this summer for a tough regimen of their own voluntary strength and conditioning program. And, IMHO, that was a good clue on the focus we were going to have this year.
In the fourth quarter there was no doubt in Cajun fans minds who was the better conditioned team on the field, who was the more physical team, and which team was operating with 22 less scholarships. That condition, sir, was honed to perfection in the hearts of our kids when they stepped into our program.

Sometimes its not the recruits you get and the press clippings that follow those recruits, but what a coaching staff does with those recruits when they get them. Can they be coached up to their potential? Have they already peaked when they were signed? Can "heart" be measured in a forty time or a bench press? Those are the intangibles that 1-AA schools have to sort through to find the diamonds in the rough that have to compete well when faced with schools with more scholarships and more talent. I don't think there is one person on this board that will argue that your own native son Jake Delhomme has done UL proud and the state of Louisiana proud, but he was told you are too slow, your arm strength is not strong enough, you need to read defense better, etc. But no one ever took the time to measure his "heart" for winning (see Texas A&M). And all he did was lead his team to the Super Bowl after spending most of his career as a journeyman quarterback because too many people listened to the pundits.

And finally, I think when UL builds a tradition of winning they are going to go places and quickly. This is not smack but honest criticism. One need not look very far and see what a tradition of winning has done for UL baseball and UL softball. That tradition will have to be built on a solid foundation of support from the university, the fans, and the large alumni base. I am not an advocate of firing Ricky Bustle but their has to be some accountabilty from the coching staff and the program to want to win and to build that tradition. It was no accident that McNeese was faster and more physical last night because that is what we, as McNeese fans have come to expect from our program. After all, it is was born out of our tradition.

Thank you for the honest response. I'm still extremly mad about the facebook group, but I admire the fact that you have enough balls to show up and defend your point. I would not expect you to defend the statements being made about the game yesterday, its not your place, nor should it ever be. The reason I called you out though was that I had seen you post here, and I thought of you as a genuine good guy, someone promoting UL in an good way and to say seeing you as a member of that group was a very big dissapointment would be an understatement.

On to the discussion of the group though, alot of us fans do defend yall alot, talk you up, and talk about how much we appreciate the athletes on the team for choosing UL over other schools. We defend yall when someone comes here talking smack about you and we tend to make sure to direct blame from games away from yall the athletes and put it more on the coaches. I mean, can you not understand the frustration with this?

I do hope you understand my position on this. I'll still be out there next saturday and I wish you the best of luck.

    Go Cajuns,

Thanks, KR, appreciate the support from a conference brother. Our 2 schools had a rough Sat., but a few of the others did a good job for the conference. Good luck to the Blue Raiders!

The group is a sore point after a disappointing weekend. Lamar Morgan is the admin of that group and could do something about it. I graduated from UL this past spring and know players on this team. As players you guys represent the university so to have players attach their names to such a group name is rather disappointing.

While many of us are disappointed after this weekend, I know I will be in the stands this weekend cheering you guys on against Troy.
