One word describes my feelings about our program at this point.
SAD
I think it would be nice to change things up every now and then, Des is a good qb, but maybe we need to change up the pace and show a little different type of offense in the second and third quarters get the defense to start thinking something to get a spark.
If a QB change accomplishes a spark, then fine. I'm not sure where our OL and DL staying the same is going to make another QB more successful. But, in football, the QB always gets the credit or the blame. I personally think our problems are primarily the execution of our lineman. I think talking about the skill player problems in our situation, is like expecting the furnishings in your house to overcome the fact you have a cracked foundation, a leaky roof, and bug infestation. You had better get the fundamentals of controlling the line of scrimmage before you "dress up" the program with another QB.
The lead in for this post was about changing to a QB with more long ball capability. That is not our problem... and even if it is one problem... it is one of 88 basic problems. Please trust me on this one... you get our lineman taking over the line of scrimmage, all else will fall into place. Tall order, but it should be the order.
I equate speculation of a QB change at this point to Saints fans questioning whether Archie Manning should have been sidelined back in the Saints horrible days. Mike, Conner, John, and no other QB can make prime rib out of a buzzard's butt.
The "fancy name" has nothing to do with sports. Ohio University, University of Massachusetts, et al have "fancy names" and ARE very good schools but are not in the BCS. Does that mean they are "small time"? I don't think so. Every time we stumble in football (which is often), the anti-UL crowd wants to use that to deride us and try to get us to "accept our place". Not gonna happen.
Talk of replacements is premature at this point as nothing will happen until at least the end of next season.
However, if and when this comes to pass, the first phone call we should make should be to Lewis Cook with apology in hand.
If a second phone call is needed, Clint Conque up at Central Arkansas should get a ring.

it was my mis-type--still not used to the new vernacular. i meant "fcs", the new 1AA division, as the context of my post indicated. ohio and umass are "fbs" schools, the old 1A. the question i tried to answer was asking why ul would not consider old 1AA/fcs. fbs: big-time; fcs: small-time.
