Good post CR. As a long term fan, I just have one question;
Is Cajun Field built on an Indian Burial ground?

OK, this is the worst I've felt about UL since the North Alabama loss. It is, without doubt, one of the darkest times from UL in the past 40 years.
Two questions (and I'll save my response until later):
1) Do you still want to support UL?
2) Why or why not?
Only two requests:
1. NO WHINING.
2. NO GLOBALS (e.g., "We always... " "They never... ")
If you want to criticized the program, by all means do so, but be unemotional about it. Just enumerate your comments & move on.
And so, the unraveling begins. Do you honestly think we will get another decent local recruit after Saturday night? I seriously doubt it. Maybe if we come back and win the conference, but short of that, looks very hopeless right now.
I don't have the standing to reply except for the fact I'm a Lafayette resident. Assuming that gives me license to post, I'll comment as follows.
I don't think this was worse than NAlabama. McNeese has another fairly competitive team this year. There were several pivotal plays (the fumble return; the Cajuns calling T/O right before half allowing McNeese to throw into the end zone; the decision to try the FG when down by 14 in the late stages of the game) that might have turned the game. I thiink this game was, on balance, a lot closer than the final score. One of the regular posters on this site indicated McNeese plays in a lower division, but apparently not @ a lower level.
Neither football team lost or won anything Sat (assuming all injured players return quickly and @ full speed) in terms of realizing their respective goals for the season. The Cajuns were not likely candidates for an "at large" bowl bid this year, and the path to the NO Bowl starts on Sat. In late Nov - early Dec (assuming McNeese qualifies as one of the 16 teams in the playoffs), it's win or go home. No McNeese opponent will care about this game then; many of the playoff teams will have defeated one (or more) FBS teams.
It was a well attended game on a great night for watching football. Both schools apparently made money off the deal. I don't think any of that can be said about the NAlabama game.
I do not know John Hundley, have never seen him play, and do not know his reason(s) for leaving the team. If that is his desire, so be it! I wish him good fortune, and success if he transfers to another school.
Yes, I believe we will continue to recruit and have decent local talent sign with OUR University. It will be a struggle if the attitude by the "fans" continues to permeate the thinking of young people we are recruiting for our athletic teams.
I, for one, do not care for your use of the word "unraveling." You have no proof that there will be other occurances. If you meant to convery that it was meant to portray the future for our athletic recruiting, then it is your opinion based on your feelings. I respect your freedom to do so, but in my opinion I do not see that happening.
I will always support my team and my school, why because it is my school.
With that said I am on the fence right now about what needs to be done...Part of me thinks that a change is needed because an attitude change is in order but part of me says I knew this would be a tough season. I think Bustle has had plenty of time to turn it around but then part of me says this program was completely stagnant before he got here. I don't know what to think...I like Bustle I would love for him to completely right the ship but if he doesn't I am starting to feel it might be time to let someone else right it for him.
Of course I am still a Cajun Fan.. Grad of 76 and again with an MBA in 82... I've been there forever and a loss like this will not change anything...
Now having said that, I started a thread earlier outiling my views of the current state of affairs in football here.... and my observations are that things are broken... broken bad.... We need a change.... Bustle has had 6 years (at the end of this one)... and I challenge anyone to tell me that we are where we should be after 6 years... Great facilities... a fan base that most Sun Belt schools envy... and the potential for a huge (by mid-level standards) fan base if someone could put some energy into this program.. the potential was there Saturday nite.... If we had put a butt-whippin on that 1-AA school you would have had a 25,000+ crowd and an electric atmosphere next Saturday against a school that gets it....
So I am calling for a change TODAY... I dont want to hear about $$$$... Buy out the contract... Make a statement that you are committed to building something in football and you will find some business people step up.. But the horse has to be in front of the cart... Too many of the old guard hangers on, bemoan our lack of support... But who is going to put money into a program that has no committment to winning?? Accepting what happened last saturday says you do not have that committment
It's going to be interesting this afternoon... either he gets in their face and nitpics their arguement, or goes stone silent and ends with a "thanks for the call"... No discourse on the caller's point if it does not go along with his line of thinking.. As to this morning host... give me a break....
But guess it's better than nutin and keeps us talking....lol
