Well, Sam, that depends entirely on what your qualifications are, as to whether I'd hire you.
I wrote that I was overwhelmingly pleased, so I meant it. First, many teams are going to have a key player out of the lineup. And, if Mitchell is so great, then your last year 3 of 8 tosses that theory out on its head... I guess... but I bet you can spin that somehow. I don't think SC struggled too much at the QB position with Smelley or Beecher. The Cajuns also had to compensate for Hathorn, Morgan and others out of the defensive line-up. Oh, but that didn't make the "week before the game media factoids"... so I guess that doesn't count.
The fact that we got down 14 in first quarter, and then came back with 2 90+ drives for TDs, had 2 other opps to punch 2 more in (one called back on a bad call), and held SC in a home game well below the heralded 29 point spread... had a brand new OC and DC, our own brand new starting QB... yes, I was overwhelmingly pleased.
If Spurrier thinks he has a team that will compete this year in the SEC... he does know a little about football... my guess is that we played a pretty decent program last week.
I didn't like not getting the W, but all things considered... overwhelmingly pleased. See you at the Ohio game, Sam!!! Geaux Cajuns!!!
hell they filled a wheelbarrow up just in the UL-Monroe game....
I saw where Bustle said they called 3 more longer passes that MikeD had to tuck under and run for lack of protection. I suspect (as stated earlier) we will be able to protect better against non-sec defensive lines....
If we catch the ball this year, our passing game will be fine and a nice complement to an awesome running attack.
We (fans) need to stop looking for the warts and enjoy the nice legs.....
I remember that game v. LTU very well. I got thrown out of it. In a fit of rage, after one of the many horrible calls that prevented us from winning the game, i inadvertantly threw an empty plastic water bottle on the field. Oops. I new i was in for it, i saw the occifers moving up the stands from the field, and met them at the top of the stands. When asked what happened, I replied "It was a crime of passion occifer". I then led myself out of the stadium. I wasn't going to argue. I then thought i was getting over on them when walking around the athletic department because i could still watch the game on the screen. then i realized that i was missing out on listening to the sweet sounds of BOP and all the beer back at the truck.
It was the first semester that my buddy's younger borther and his friends were at UL, and most of us were beginning to graduate. After the game, I gave them a long drunken lecture that they still laugh at, telling them that we were passing the torch to them and it was their responsibility to continue to carry it with Ragin Cajun pride. I'll remember that game for a long time.
Parts of the game were moral victories. I did not expect to be in the game at half. I did not expect to tie the last fourty-eight minutes of the game. For us to give up a quick fourteen then play lights out like we did says the Cajun coaches had the players out of position early on but to their credit made the right adjustments. The moral victory was they didn't wait till half time to make the adjustments. This coaching staff can think on their feet. We never forgot who we were playing and it led to no turnovers. We never forgot who we were playing and it cost us six points. I wish we would have kicked two field goals instead of going for it on fourth down and failing. With another six points we could have gone for it on fourth and tied it up in the last three minutes with a two point conversion. Field goals are big because they allow onside kick tries to get extra possessions. If we had the ball just one more time I think we win. Mike is the man. Cheri is a bat out of hell. Fenroy is Fenroy. The O Line is the O Line. The kicker for USC will play pro ball even if it is just kickoffs. If the coaches were not so dead set on a balanced attack UL could easily lead the country in rushing. Mike completing sixty-two percent of his passes is a big big moral victory. USC has very good secondary and linebackers. Not many teams will complete sixty-two percent of the passes against USC. Not many teams will run for a quarter G against them either. UL will get a lot of interceptions this year. And now that I got rid of my jitters I predict UL 38 Ohio 24
After hearing what coaches Bustle and Anderson stated at the lunchon, they don't care about moral victories. The staff focused on the mistakes Sunday night and didn't talk about moral victories. The coaches were happy with the effort given by the kids, but there were too many mistakes at critical moments. These kids will not make the same mistake as last year coming off the Houston game or at least that is their focus.
What in the heck is a moral victory? Sorry to sound so negative but “YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME” ( Herm Edwards 2000 and something) I personally think that the losing mentality at the university, on local radio, in the newspaper, and throughout the community has got to stop. Sure I thought that our guys played their asses off and I give them props for that, but I will never be happy with a loss and I am pretty sure the players won’t be either.
