During fall scrimmages, throwing to the tight end was a regular feature of UL's offensive attack. But the last scrimmage was also the last time that the tight end corps provided a significant target for Cajun quarterbacks.
In four games, only two players listed as tight ends on the roster have caught passes. Offensive tackle Jesse Newman has as many catches (one) as do regular tight end starters Kevin Belton and Erik Jones.
"It's not like we haven't had the calls in there," said tight ends coach Troy Wingerter. "Every week we talk about getting the ball to the tight end more. Every day, period two, we're working with the quarterbacks."
"We had several called on Saturday to go to the tight ends," said Cajun coach Rickey Bustle. "For one reason or another, they didn't work out like that."
