_ He is a Sophomore. 2+ years left. Nobody said he was gonna hold the clipboard for 2+ years, and much like life football doesn't guarantee anyone anything. Was he lied to and promised he would start no matter what as a Sophomore?

I believe the generals statement holds for more than just war. Obviously the consequences of Hunley quitting are not that of a soldier quitting---and I never even came close to saying they were. But please also note I am not the one who attached that quote to a post on a football forum.

"Maybe he realized that it wasn't worth his time to stay on the team in a situation where he was never going to start. Most people don't come to play sports at UL just to wear the jersey. He's not Rudy."

You are right, Rudy had more moral courage than Hunley. And so do every one of the other UL backups who didn't get into the game, and who ALSO probably didn't come to school with the intention of not playing. Quit before, or quit after the season....not during.

It's just a game. I'm sure he is a nice guy. I just think he made a mistake quitting on his team just because the going got rough. _

I was under the impression that he was third on the depth chart now, and the redshirt quarterbacks this year would be ahead of him after Desormeaux leaves. If he would have indeed started his senior year, maybe he felt that he would be better off somewhere else anyway.

As for all of this moral courage stuff, you're putting all of your feelings of allegiance to this team on him. He was a pretty highly recruited guy and I would imagine he felt he was going to get his shot pretty quickly. In a perfect world where college sports are the end all to be all (hardly a perfect world to begin with), I would agree that he should have stuck it out. BUT, people transfer all the time. People quit mid-season all the time, and that's just life.

I'm just saying that the players aren't always as emotionally tied to the program as the fans. In fact, I'd imagine that most of the time the players aren't as emotionally tied to the program as the fans. The move does seem a bit like sour grapes, but c'est la vie.

If Desormeaux is the starter again next year, I doubt the program will miss a step anyway. By then one of the redshirt QBs should be ready to carry the load.

_ so i heard some interesting stats about troy so i decided to do some comparisons, here goes

Rushing offense:
UL, national ranking:21, 228 ypg, 685 total, 4.77 yards per carry, but only 3 rushing tds
Troy, national rank: 79, 129 ypg, 389 total, 3.7 ypc, 7 tds

passing offense:
UL, national rank: 99(t), 160.7 ypg, 482 yards total, 4tds
Troy, national rank: 22, 295 ypg, 885 total, 5 tds

Rush Defense:
UL, National rank: 98, 207 ypg, 623 total, 8 tds
Troy, national rank: 119, 285 ypg, 855 total, 10tds

Pass defense:
UL, national rank: 55, 217 ypg, 653 total, 4tds
troy, national rank: 43, 194 ypg, 584 total, 5tds

troy stands 1-2 losing to arkansas and florida, but winning against oklahoma state.

UL stands 0-3 losing to South Carolina, Ohio, and Mcneese

troy's schedule is definitely tougher, but we have played close games against south carolina and ohio

arkansas beat troy but lost to alabama, florida has beat WKU, troy and tennessee, oklahoma state beat FAU but lost to troy and georgia

south carolina has beat UL, georgia, and south carolina state, ohio has beat UL, gardner-webb, but lost to virginia tech

arkansas has the number 4 ranked rush offense, 104 pass offense, 63 rush defense, 96 pass defense

florida has the number 15 rush offense, 24 pass offense, 6 rushing defense, 71 pass defense

oklahoma state has the 42 rush offense, 68 pass offense, 40 rush defense, 93 pass defense

south carolina has the 39 rush offense, 77 pass offense, 92 rush defense, 6 pass defense

ohio has the 76 rush offense, 84 pass offense, 78 rush defense, 97(t) pass defense

so what do i make of all these numbers? troy has the worse run defense in the country to date, that works in our favor, our pass offense is near the bottom that works in troys favor. looks like it may rain saturday, that would definitely give us an advantage. while we sit at 0-3, troy is only a game better at 1-2. the spread on the game is less than 10 last time i heard, in troys favor but the line has moved in our favor nearer the end of the week. while we are 0-3, we can still win 6 games or better so long as we dont fall apart. This week will be the test, i think we may upset troy this week and start us down the right path into sun belt play. anybody else wish to share any interesting numbers please feel free. _

only problem... our pass defense ain't steller, especially if the QB gets to sit back, read the paper and wait for somebody to get open, and last i heard, our running backs are all stove-up - maybe a no-go tomorrow - hope, hope real hard.

Change the basic defense and blitz, blitz, blitz. We need to make the QB uncomfortable and get rid of the ball quickly. Rushing three or four like ealier games won't get it done.

It just occurred to me, maybe Coach was just holding back somewhat until conference. Yeah, that's the ticket! All of that pre-season hype about the new, fast-paced offense and the aggressive defense will come out inthe first conference game. He just didn't want tip his hand in the pre-conference games. Genius!!

Do you really think Hundley did not want to be on this team.. he would not have chosen UL over numerous other offers and stuck with it until now if he did not want to be on the team. It is obvious that he is just frustrated with the coaching situation and believes he should be starting, now I don't condone quitting, but give Hundley the benefit of the doubt. Now hear this, it's good to have faith in your head coach, but only for so long. Just because you are the head coach of a football team does not mean you know all. It merely means you have the power to "know all". How about an example with the New Orleans Saints some years back. When Mike Ditka was head coach and he was starting people like Billy Joe Tolliver and others over Jake Delhomme all those years when everyone was screaming that Delhomme was clearly the better QB. Everytime he would get playing time, whether it be preseason games or not, he performed and you had New Orleans fans in the dome chanting his name during some points of the season to put him in. This has happened numerous teams in all sports with all teams. Why must you think that RICKEY BUSTLE of all people is the God of football and knows who the best qb is. Maybe, just maybe, John Hundley WAS and IS a better qb than mike. We will never know now, because our head coach did not do what he was supposed to do. Mike is not getting paid, he is not a pro athlete that can cry when he gets pulled out. If he was not performing against a DII school, you yank him and give your backup a try... simple as that.

Good luck Hundley, I watched you at STM and you had a bright future, hopefully you choose to come back to UL or transfer somewhere that a coach will see your talent.

My feelings exactly. Who knows whether Desormeaux or Hundley is the best QB. My beef is with Buscle for not having the balls to make a switch when a switch was so obviously needed! This was more than anything else a failure in Coaching last Saturday. Buscle was unprepared for the intensity of McNeese. He did not understand the intensity of the rivalry, he did not have a game plan that considered contingencies. In other words "To he that is a Hammer the whole world is a Nail". He was outcoached and the players were outplayed and the coach could not think on his feet. If Buscle was a General in World War II we would have lost the war. Why because he has a one track mind. No creativity. This is where the ballgame is won. Oh, things are not going as planned what do we do?

Buscle answer is "we are very disappointed we must learn to have a winning attitude". How about Buscle needs to learn how to coach!! You know Coach; As in coaching during the game. Thinking on your feet. There's more to a game than Xs' & Os'.

Buscle needs a brain!!!! You known - to think on his feet. Oh, we lost circulation lon the well lets all be disappointed and give up on the well. Why not put some loss circulation material in and maybe kick off and save the well. Oh but that's not in our script. I don't understand what to do when things go bad except to be disappointed.

WHY NOT TRY COACHING - REAL COACHING - GET INVOLVED - THINK - ROLL WITH PUNCHES - IF YOU CAN"T RUN - PASS - IF YOUR QB CAN"T PASS PUT ONE IN THAT CAN AND ABOVE ALL ELSE BE A MAN AND STOP WORRYING ABOUT HURTING THE FEELINGS OF MEN - UNLESS THEY ARE NOT MEN!! IF THEY ARE NOT MEN TRY RECRUITING MEN NEXT SPRING.

Men that can play like young men and don't need to be molycoddled. If you really want to play then prove it.

OH by the way if Hundley didn't work out when he got his chance then put Morel in and so forth till we get a QB!!
