You're not getting are you? A program like us or most mid-major programs for that matter are usually stepping stones for coaches who prove themselves after success and get higher paying jobs in more recognized conferences. Its reality and its a part of the business. If Floyd were to be here for only 2-3 years, he would have put us back on the map regionally and perhaps, nationally which would open other candidates eyes to this job beyond his time here. If he or any candidate were to be here for a short period of time, that would likely be a good thing or at least a mark of progression.

Floyd, BTW, may be the best candidate for this position. He has a little baggage but his success speaks for itself and his ability to get good players to programs that lack in prestige is unprecedented. We should hope we can land a guy like him.

We actually do not know if Floyd has baggage or not. USC as a whole has been running a dirty program since Pete Carrol arrived there in the early 2000's. It is quite possible that the disputes between Floyd and the USC AD was about not controlling boosters or running a clean program.

No one knows, but I am going to give Tim Floyd the benefit of the doubt. If you look at USC and the defections and recent hirings at SoCal you would see that they are bracing for major sanctions. Pete Carrol bolted and they hire Lane Kiffen, who will not succeed but they will be ok with that because he'll be their fall guy. Basketball they don't care about anyway, Floyd put them on the map and now they are falling off again.

So when the NCAA comes out and clears Tim Floyd we should all stop talking about baggage that may or may not exist.

There is baggage, whether is real or perceived, its still baggage. Even if he's cleared, there will always be people or programs that have some questions into the recruiting issues. Where there is smoke, there usually is fire. Whether they can prove anything or whether he himself did anything at all, he was running a program that was accused of several things. Again, perception is often reality.

You heard? Get real. I'm not sure what "sources" you have but you'd be the last guy I'd expect to be told anything of value or truth.

And you heard that from who exactly? Unless you're reporting for the Advertiser or KATC, then you don't know that for sure. Just saying...

He is a top 5 coach in the country so of course will be moving on if Cajuns go on NCAA tourney run in a couple of years. The alternative is Cajuns go under .500 the next two years, as part of another 6 year plan to rebuild.

Love Floyd. But not in the top 5. Would struggle to make top 10

OK, then how about a "top 5 available"

I don't think that is the only alternative....

So, If we get Floyd we make it to the big Dance in two years and he goes, or if not we don't break .500.

All the guys being considered with the exception of Pierre have been Successful Division I head coaches. Some of them were in the tournament this year. Many of them have won at least 20 games for the last 3 or 4 years.

Floyd would be a hell of a hire, but you have to remember that he also has to want to come here. I personally agree with the OP and he is just screwing with us.

I really believe that Floyd, Marlin, Kaspar, Kennedy, Butch, or Gottfried could be successful here.

You have to remember that every coach with the exception of Robert Lee has been a 20 game winner here and went on to be a Division I head coach at another university.

Just hang tight. I believe if one of these guys are selected the Cajuns will be back sooner than you think.

Once you get to top 15 or so, all pretty subjective. I think Floyd was one of only a handful of coaches that could have so quickly turned USC from mediocre to top 10 team in a few years. he also is one of only a handful that could have made Iowa St. top 10 in a few years and UNO top 25 within a few years. Of course, he would have had to have remained at Iowa St. for a decade or USC for a decade, one a national titlle, then got a job at North Carolina, Kansas, or Kentucky and wona title there to be considered by most a top 5. BUT, I believe he has always been capable of going down that road, he just did not go down that road by choice. His choice of roads to go down does not diminish his ability to coach and build a program as quickly as any other can.

But even if Floyd is not even top 10, when have the Cajuns ever hired a top 50 guy? If they have it has been decades ago (Paschal and earlier) before college basketball was on a big national stage.
