When Brooke Mitchell gets in a groove, she's just about unhittable.
When the rest of Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns find their rhythm, their hits go a long way.
That combination proved too much for the North Texas Mean Green on Saturday as the Cajuns took a 1-0, 12-1 doubleheader sweep at Ragin' Cajun Softball Park.
Mitchell hurled a two-hitter in the opener and struck out 13, but needed a sixth-inning solo home run from Ashley Evans to get her 23rd win of the year against six defeats.
It was a different story in Game Two, although once again all the Cajuns' runs came courtesy of deep shots in the 5-inning triumph.
Danyele Gomez unloaded two circuit shots to left field (Nos. 45 and 46 in her career), a three-run blast that cleared the bleachers in the second inning and another three-run delivery in the fourth that disappeared into the oak tree behind the bleachers.
Joy Webre delivered a three-run home run to center field in the first inning, Lacey Bertucci followed a Webre double with a towering two-run blast to center in the third and Brittany Bryant's solo homer followed Gomez in the fourth.
"Brooke bailed us out early," co-head coach Michael Lotief said. "We had some early errors, and that's uncharacteristic of the way we've been playing recently. We were letting bad at-bats affect us in the field, so we were playing half a game."
