Thread: Cajun Baseball

  1. UL Baseball Cajun Baseball

I invite all memebers who have been around Cajuns baseball for a while to rank this current team versus past teams. Be honest. I think from top to bottom we can achieve what the 2000 team did.

We Are On Current Pace To Break School Record. However That Dont Mean _____ If We Do Not Make Major Noise In The Post Season. There Is Still Alot Of Season Left But I Like What I Have Seen So Far.

Top to bottom, pitching through hitting, best we have had. The teams we had back when Papo Ramos played were pretty talented as well.

I think the SOS may have been a bit tougher in 2000 and even in 1999. This team is good, but they still have a lot of season left. We will see.. I am hopeful though.

    My comparison of 2000 v.s. 2005

Starting Pitching: Adv. 2000 more quility depth
Relief Pitching: Adv. 2000 Gordon O'Brian was awesome
First Base: Big Adv. 2005 Hawke and Tatford much better than Poche
Second Base: Slight Adv. to 2000 Ryan Gill was a gamer
Short Stop: Tie Rick Hydal was a clutch player but there is depth with Cockrell and Parker
Third Base: Tie Nathn Nelson and Morris pretty equal
Left Field: Adv. 2005 Landry better all round player than Will Hawkins
Center Field: Slight Adv. 2005 Feehan was a gamer but Coker may be the best defensive outfilder we have had and is very fast
Right Field: Adv. 2005 McCarthy better all round player than Tommy Clark
Catcher: Adv. 2000 Massiatte was a leader and a great player, with Morgan I still can't believe what I am seeing
DH: Big Adv. 2005 Tatford and Lucroy much much better than Larry Jarvis and Scott A.
Bench: Big Adv. 2005 this year's team has quality depth at every position

The major strengths of the 2000 club was pitching, hitting for power, and the team was made up of gamers. Weakness may have been consistent hitting.

The major strenghts of the 2005 club is starting pitching if Cockrell is for real, team speed, depth at every position, and every 1-9 can hit. Weakness is the jury may still be out on Cockrell and we may need a 4th starter. Scham is great against righties and struggles against lefties. Coker strikes way to much for a lead-off hitter.

This team has more talent than the 1999 or 2000 team, however they do not yet have the "swager" of those two teams.
