Thread: 2004-05 Winningest Programs of the Fall ( and in to the Spring )

  1. NCAA 2004-05 Winningest Programs of the Fall ( and in to the Spring )

I'm calling it the Glen Raggio Report. He compiled this list, actually in much more detail. I used his last 2 columns of total wins from 2004-05 football and basketball which for Louisiana included the Ragin’ Cajuns and Lady Cajuns wins and losses. If a university did not have all 3 of the Major Sports, they were excluded. I forgot to include the actual rankings Louisiana is tied for 29th best. Thanks Glenn

Now I am curious how would wins per each $million in athetic budget rank.

Hoping to add Softball and Baseball, that will come in July.

As for $/win, somebody far better than me to compile that. But that would be very interesting.

One of the more original lists I have ever seen. I doubt the BCS conferences would like to see a list based on wins per million dollars spent.

If and when baseball and softball are added...we will surely appear more impressive!

The BCS would say that football is the only sport that matters, and other things like that to take the pressure away from them.

I was just doing some research for my next article, so I tabulated the combined winning percentage of the two diamond sports right now. Here are the top 10:

    1. Creighton (84.2%)
    2. Texas (83.1%)
    3. Louisiana (82.1%)
    4. Georgia Tech (81.2%)
    5. Michigan (81.0%)
    6. Oregon St. (80.0%)
    7. Tennessee (78.7%)
    8. Alabama (77.9%)
    9. Missouri (77.6%)
    10. College of Charleston (77.5%)

I added the records of UL softball and baseball into the above spreadsheet, the result is a winning % of 72.48. I predicted before I even started the project that UL would be in or near the top 20.

With 3 wins on Sunday, the updated season records is 119-42 for a 73.91 winning percentage.

Not bad, not bad at all.
