UL Football 2005: How I would love to see our stadium upgraded and renovated!

I've been a Cajun fan since enrolling at USL in 87'....and I'm curious to know why hasn't any funds been vested in the development of our Football stadium? I know some would argue that we are not filling the seats in the stands to justify it. However, I think filling the stadium seats could be the end result of up grading our stadium!

Think about this...How much would it cost to add more aluminum benches to increase our seating capacity to say...50 thousand? Redesign our consession area? Or even create a covered lobby that goes completely around the arena or just connects both sides of the stadium...Kinda like a "walk of fame" with pictures of past players and replica trophy's, etc....with our fight song playing through speakers...or with monitors showing football clips from the past.

I think if we seriously update our stadium...market it like crazy to the acadiana area...People will come just out of pure curiosity! Kind of the place to be before going out to experiance Lafayette's wonderful night life!

I also think a larger seating capacity will be encouraging to larger schools to come and play use here in the swamp....and Finally, Image is everything...If we want to get better player's on our team...we have to give the appearance of being big time! Our stadium is not that much bigger than some of these high schools in Florida and Texas...

    More food for thought....

Half time....maybe we can develop more interesting half time shows...Add something a little more interesting in addition to our wnderful marching band! Maybe sky divers, fire works, cajun/zydeco bands...I don't know....Maybe make every home game something like a mini superbowl for our area! Let's be creative!

I would also love to see the staduim expanded but at this point I believe it would be throwing away money. The thing I would like to see down is a massive cleaning project to get the Swamp back to its original look. I understand what you are saying about maki it more marketable for bigger teams to want to play here but unless we are filling up what we have now, I just can't see it being economicly feasible. Give it a few years and let our attendence continue to rise and maybe we will see it but for now I think it would be a waste.

I wanted to add on to what I said...one other improvement i think should be made to Cajun Field is a renovation of the press boxs. With a much nicer press box and a clean Staduim would be great for the program

    UCF went 0-11 last season.

    Nobody went to their games.

They just got approval from their board of trustees to build a 45k on-campus football stadium.

They are looking to the future, to the Big East. They will most likely get it.

You can't play with the big boys if you don't have any cajones.

I don't knwo the exact numbers but as far as athletic budgets go UCF has a much bigger budget to work with than we do. You can look toward the future when you have the money to put towards it but with our athletic budget doin the renovations to the athletic complex and the indoor practice facility I believe are the best things to help our future at this point.

I'm not saying we need a new stadium.

Just seats in the end zones, and clean it once in a while.

By the way, I don't want any excuses.

    Get 'er done.

Don't get me wrong I hear what ya'll are saying but i do not think it would be a smart move to add seating until we are filling what we have.

I understand what your saying Clutch....But when do we start? When do we anticipate developing our Primary sporting facility to those of other major universities? Football is our biggest draw...Why not invest more money there?

I like how north texas has done it. They have had a lot of success the last few years and now are working on all the facility upgrades. We have added a lot and i believe the stadium will be the last piece to the puzzle. North Texas has not getten final word on their stadium yet but I think if we put together a few winning seasons that will be the que for us to start on the stadium. Like i said though i would like to renovate the press boxs and give the stadium a good cleaning, once you do that you wait and get the extra seating added when we really need it.
I'm no expert and I believe our university is doing it right so far so whatever they think is right I will stick behind them

It will be a great day in Lafayette...when our football stadium is expanded! It will send a statement to the rest of Louisiana that we mean business!

Our football stadium does not look like a Division 1 stadium. Why would you want your fans to sit on the grass in the endzone? Why would you not want to build luxury suites when this would mean extra revenue for the athletic department? I do not understand it.

My whole arguement is not about luxury boxes and new press boxs...I just believe that spending money on building seats in the endzones at this time would not be smart. Until we feel up the seats we have why add more?
