Evnetually this could be good for UL.
By trying to "break up" the LSU system or reduce int size, at least in the legislature, this will make the UL System more powerful. LSU was sucking money from UNO for themselves.
Once upon a time UNO had a really good baseball team, I doubt the UNO will be competing against UL in Division I. They do not quality to apply for Division I in baseball.
This bill needs to DIE just like the other one!!
It seems to me that, for once, the current members of the UL System would seek common ground and fight this bill together. A single institution in the ULS stands no chance against what has unofficially become the "Will of LSU" that they dump UNO into the ULS. Could the combined efforts of UL, La Tech, ULM, SLU, NSU, Nichols, and McNeese be enough to stop it? Only if our legislators know that we are watching to see who is looking out after OUR interests instead of those of LSU. As far as I am concerned, the vote on this bill will show which of our legislators are representing us, and which are nothing more than LSU stooges themselves. I've sent e-mails to my legislators explaining how I feel about this issue. I encourage everyone to do the same. If you know people from other ULS schools, contact them and ask them to let their legislators know that they oppose this bill. This bill, if it passes, will set the academic strides made by UL back by decades. It will kill any chance of further enhancing our status as a research institution. LSU will have succeeded in lumping UL, UNO, and La Tech together as second rate research institutions. We need to fight this with all we're worth.
UNO's move to the UL system has passed the house with a unanimous vote in favor----Did we want this????
If you want the simple answer, it's NO.
HELL NO WE DON'T WANT THIS!!!!!
Actually...I received an e-mail from some people in the know at Martin Hall.
They think this may not a bad move, because:
1) It strengthens the UL System bargaining position.
2) It will foster research collaboration between the schools. Apparently Dr. Savoie and the UNO chancellors are friends.
3) Also, funding will not be effected, because it is done on a formula basis and not system basis.
4) Finally, the people at Martin Hall actually believe it will help our influence in the NOLA area. UNO serves the city of New Orleans almost exclusively, and them changing systems will not change that.
