I am a big man and can admit when I am wrong. Sorry Brian. Thanks for all that you do to support the University. Like I said in my original post though, I will hold my tongue no longer about LSpuke.

You're right Z. I just get a little carried away sometimes.
It's only because I love UL soo much.

By the way, your articles are great and really appreciate the fact that you dont give the homer point of view in your articles.

I am not asking you to hold your tongue. Just asking you to consider the manner in which you use it. Trying to shove the name issue down people's throats will alienate the fence sitters. If those fence sitters have some media influence (i.e. Boyd Nation), you can do more harm than good depending on how you react. And keep in mind, when people react this way and start establishing a group reputation as whiners/complainers, it makes it more difficult for me (and other university supporters) to use "Louisiana" in my content.
As a general rule, bite your tongue and be polite in your message. This will have the greater impact.

Fortunately SEBaseball.com has been very supportive of their writers and encourages them to write with a little flair. Keep in mind that Mark is an Alabama alum and Paul (JPK) hails from Auburn.
I have not kept the barbs. But they were generally along the line of being insulting to both myself and UL. Of course, the barbs were almost always unintelligible.

I just happened to run across this quite old thread while Googling for some other stuff and thought I'd clarify my position just to get it out there in public; it's surprising how often issues of naming come up and how passionate some people become about it. I won't get into motives or amateur psychoanalysis, since they don't matter here, but I'll explain why I do what I do.
I have two basic rules about what name I use; if the two conflict, the second rule takes precedence. The first rule is that schools have a right to be called what they want to, within the bounds of disambiguating everyone. The second is that the athletic department does not get to decide what the school is called.
The first rule means that I'm fine with switching from "Cal Irvine" to "UC Irvine" or from "IUPU-Fort Wayne" to "IPFW" at their request (or from "Kent State" to "Kent" and back to "Kent State"). The second means that I'm sticking with "Texas Christian", "Central Florida", and "North Carolina-Charlotte" rather than the shorter versions that the MBA's in athletic marketing would prefer.
In this particular case, if you go to either www.ull.edu or www.ragincajuns.com, you'll see that they're referring to themselves including Lafayette as part of the name; it seems that this particular movement is more within the fan base than the school itself.

Turbine,
Please send Mr. Nation the information on why we were FORCED to be called UL @ Lafayette. He is under the impression that this is something we chose.
Easy, partner. wanting to call ourselves something, and asking others to call us that is one thing. But looking for every shoulder out there to cry on, can sometimes seem like we're just a bunch of cry babies and end up making people dislike us, and not treat us like we want to be treated.
Hi Boyd Nation thanks for the reply.
My suggestion is just look at this legal domain name www.louisiana.edu the one you used is just a catch all
However I know what you mean by the web site confusion like this one http://www.unl.edu/ I just hope you don't start calling my 3rd favorite school Nebraska-Lincoln
