Thread: Regional in Lafayette

    UL Baseball Regional in Lafayette

SEBaseball review mentions Lafayette as a possible regional site this year. It might come down whether they will give three in Louisiana.

If we do get it, we need to fill the Teague up and show them that this is a great place to play baseball. We all know that we have some of the best fans out there but when we do get opportunities like this we have to prove it.

What is the possibility of having regionals in Lafayette & New Orleans only? If "things" continue, Baton Rouge may not have a team entered in Mens "or Womens" baseball. At what point are regionals awarded? I believe we were in the top 5 in attendance for the Lafayette regional in 2000. The situation with College Baseball Teams in Louisiana is looking a little different this year than in the past........anything can happen.....

I saw an interesting possibility for regionals this year. LSU will more than likely get a regional due their huge draw and bid every year. If the Cajuns finish really well, its possible the Cajuns could be the number 1 seed at the Baton Rouge regional with LSU the number 2. I doubt it will happen but who knows.

It would be a crime for the Cajuns not to host a regional this year, as long as they continue to take care of business on the field from here on out.

Unfortunately, with the overwhelming bias that exists in favor of LSpuke, I find it hard to believe that they would not also get a regional. If Tulane continues to play well then it would be highly improbable that Louisiana would get 3 regionals. I think this whole debate comes back to our weak schedule. Until we either move out of the SunBelt, or schedule stronger non-conference competition, we will continue to get the shaft.

On a related note, I am ____ed at the lack of respect that we are shown by Baseball America and Boyd's World. Baseball America continues to leave us out of the top 25 (again I think due to scheduling issues), and Boyd's World continues to refer to us as Louisiana-Lafayette. I have sent scathing e-mails to both in the last couple of days. Baseball America has not responded, but Boyd Nation sent a response telling me to stop complaining. Well you know what, F$#% Boyd Nation. If you all get a chance, send him an e-mail telling him that we are Louisiana and not the other. Hell, why don't they refer to Texas as UT-Austin. But I digress.

If we do get sent to a regional with LSpuke, it may be a blessing in disguise. Things will be different this year than they were in 2002 (I still feel ill when I think about that regional). Now we have much stronger pitching all the way through, and our hitting is much more solid top to bottom.

SEBaseball has the Cajuns as the #1 seed in the Nebraska regional.

The cajuns will need to win alot of games down the stretch to keep their RPI in the top 16. Their SOS is only going to go down from here. Another problem is that they will have no games against top 25 teams. The game tonoght will help but thats a tough place to win. UNO has a horrible RPI and we're playing them on the road while they are hot. Any losses to them won't look good. NMSU also has a horrible RPI and that is a very tough place to sweep. The Cajuns also play SHSU that same week with one game already set up for a loss. The cajuns RPI went from #8 to #44 after their last 2-2 week. It wouldn't have as much effect now but the Cajuns need to be careful. The remainder of the schedule has a couple of tough games and a whole lot of trap games.

THERE IS 12 TEAMS IN THE SEC AND ONLY EIGHT WILL MAKE THE CONF TOURNEY, LSU IS CURRENTLY IN NINTH PLACE, IF THEY DON'T MAKE THE CONF TOURNEY AS THE CAJUNS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS AND WIN THE SUNBELT AND THE CONF TOURNEY THERE IS A POSSIBILITY WE COULD GET A REGIONAL. I EMAILED JOHN MANUEL OF BASEBALL AMERICA @ JOHNMANUEL@BASEBALLAMERICA.COM BUT GOT NO REPLY THERE POLL SUCKS. CAJUNS #13 IN NCWBA AND LSPOKE # 18 GO CAJUNS.

I just looked at our RPI on Boyd's World. We are 14 as of 4/10. Lamar is 57. Loss last night should not hurt too bad. However, we can not afford to lose anymore since everybody we play has an RPI in the 100s.

I also looked at our schedule from the 2000 season when we hosted a regional and went to the CWS (seems like ages ago now). The difference between that schedule and this one is that in 2000 we had non-conference series with Southern Miss, Oklahoma and Wichita State, with two games against Tulane and one against LSpuke.

According to Warren Nolan, we dropped to 16 and Lamar moved to 43. Thats not much of a drop but where it hurts is that it brings our road record to .500 and lowers our winning percentage against the top 50. The cajuns do not play a top 25 team this year so wins against the top 50 are important. Whats really gonna hurt is playing some of the really bad RPI teams in the sunbelt staring with UNO. And we would have to catch them while they are on a roll.

This is not the way to go about promoting the use of "Louisiana". Acting childish is not going to win people over. You cannot force it on people, you just need to be patient. I have been using "Louisiana" in all of my material for Rivals.com and SEBaseball.com. The editors have been very neutral about it, but I have received scathing comments from some individuals in the past (similar to the one you recently sent Boyd). Comments like these from either side of the issue serve no purpose.

As far as the Baseball America poll, do not let it get to you. In my opinion, it is not really a poll and they do not provide the coverage that an SEBaseball.com does. Remember that the BA poll is simply three guys getting into a room on a Monday morning collectively deciding the Top 25 for that week. Also, their bias towards teams with high round MLB prospects is tiresome and often does not translate to performance on the college field. But it is their publication.

Try giving SEBaseball.com a try. I had the Cajuns at #14 in my ballot this past week. They were #12 in the poll itself.

    Brian,

I don't know who you are, but based on your post, I am going to guess that you are not from Louisiana (although I could be wrong and am sorry if i am). You obviously have no idea how Cajun fans feel about the lack of respect the University gets, especially from the LSpuke fans. I have been patient and have held my tongue for years, but I refuse to do so anymore.

I do thank you though for your proper use of our Universities name.
