Winning 2 more games will give us 30 wins. How many other teams in the nation have 30 wins right now?
It's fortunate for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team that a struggling Texas-Pan American team was in the visitors' dugout Saturday afternoon.
The Cajuns committed three first-inning errors and made enough other mistakes to give coach Tony Robichaux fits. But they also scored double-figure runs and rapped out double-figure hits for the third straight game, and that offensive punch was more than enough in a 14-6 victory over the Broncs.
UL (28-6), winners of five in a row and 10 of 12, had the three errors, a wild pitch, a walk and a hit batsman before even coming to bat, and Texas-Pan American had an early 2-0 lead.
"I told our guys that if this had been a regional or super regional, we wouldn't have been able to come back from that," Robichaux said. "We've got to play better defensively. We're fortunate that our hitting covered up some mistakes today."
That hitting resulted in runs in every inning but the first, with eight different starters getting hits and seven getting at least one RBI. And the hitting was balanced, with four hits from the top three spots in the lineup, five from the middle and five from the bottom three slots.
"The whole key is we've got John Coker back going," said Cajun senior second baseman Justin Merendino, who had two hits and was on base four times. "The guys at the top of the lineup have really stepped up, the guys in the middle have hit all year and the bottom has been more than pulling its weight."
