Cordian Hagans will open some eyes this year. James Butler is a guy who will be on that list at the end of the year as well.

Come on guys! The Cajuns won a total of 3 games last season, it should not be hard to see we don't currently have many all conference players returning! Sometimes we need to be honest with our selves. However, as we all know, things around UL are changing quickly and so will future all conference teams!

I would be much more worried if he was rating the all freshman class.
I agree, PS has no other source than to go off of last years numbers.

Not if you are basing your predictions on previous stats. Now, Masson deserves some recognition as I would guarantee that he will finish third team or better at end of season but nobody on this list had numbers last year that would suggest recognition. Phil, like every other publication, bases his predictions on past performances along with the idea that they will progress through the given year and improve. None of the others provided a solid basis for such assumptions. Also, you have to figure that RB position and QB position in the SBC are loaded this year. Solid RB's like Sean Southward and Derrick Lawson are not even being mentioned due to the headliners on other teams like Dunbar, Rainey and Morris. However, I would certainly think that Bentley, Devon Lewis-Buchanon and Masson would have gotten more recognition along with Cordian Hagans as he's getting some love from Lindy's. The rise of Gautier and thoughts that he could take over the QB spot are hurting Masson for sure.
just checked the poll on the Best TE and yesterday the highest percentage was around 15% for one of the players now it is 63% for the TE from Notre Dame, seems like a big jump over night.
...not exactly
While the 2 schools had similar final records 4-8 to 3-9, the level of play for the whole season was decidedly different.
Arkansas State:
- was 3 points away 6 wins
- was 10 points away from 7 wins
- scored 26 on National Champ Auburn
- had 2 point loss to Indiana and 10 point loss to Louisville
- beat FAU by 21
- beat MT by 27
- outscored by only 9 points for the whole season
Louisiana:
- was 2 points away from going 1-11
- was 9 points away from going 0-12
- loss to WKU by 33
- loss to MT by 20
- was outscored by 176 for the whole season
2 similar records
2 very different seasons
It isn't that we don't have SBC "all conference" players returning. We pulled a vacuum last year and that is about as far as anyone outside of ourselves investigates our program. I also believe that Bustle's extended stay with lackluster results made sure that anyone we recruited under his watch was guaranteed low individual assessment. No one other than Ladarius stands out as a stud... and that is purely from his stats as a TE... in the eyes of the rest of the world. They have very little first-hand knowledge of his abilities. I firmly do not believe that the SBC, other than 2 or 3 programs, have any better talent than we do.
Regardless of how bad we were last year, this tally of SBC talent is not indicative of our returning talent. If we don't have any better talent than Phil Steele indicates... then Bustle was a worse recruiter and better coach than I thought. He was an average SBC recruiter and an average SBC coach.
I know most don't want to start out with too high of expectations of Hud, given that it's his first year and he is supposedly working with less than spectacular talent. He'll get much much more out of our team, right off the bat. There may be no substitute for talent... but hard work runs a close second.
The one thing that we will not see as we did the past 9 years is a grandfatherly coach that consoles players as they leave the field after 3 and out. As for our defense, besides being injury plagued (and we all need to stop forgetting that as a huge factor in our outcomes) when these guys start thinking they are dominant... and Hud will easily have them thinking so... it will change the results on the field in a split second. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever.
