I'd be offended if my alma maters didn't try to improve their rankings in every way possible.

...It's clearly pretty easy to improve a school's ranking if you play the system. I think I'd question the schools too lazy to get ranked, but concerned enough to question the rankings.

I agree. I surely wouldn't want my university to actually WORK to get better...and eventually to BE better. I would only want them to game the rankings system so we can all feel good because we THOUGHT we were better.

Sounds a lot like the baseball RPI system

    :-)

Well, old buddy...one of your past stops definitely goes out of its way to try and**** everyone, so I guess gaming the system is probably something thats right up their/your alley.

LSU is certainly one univeristy that bases its fundraising on their Tier 1 status by indicating the importance of this ranking to alumni.

Most of LSU's fund raising campaign revolves around this ranking, and how LSU needs donations from alums to stay in Tier 1, especially with the current educational budget issues.

Now that this report is out, I believe quite a few LSU alums will feel betrayed by their alma mater. Fool me once, and no donations the next time ...

This was an eye opening report, and needed to stop all this fabrication about a Tier 1 ranking.
