LOUISIANA La. - Louisiana's Lady Cajuns tennis team (8-5) defeated the Mean Green of UNT 4-3 Sunday at Cajun Courts.
The Cajun women defeated their second straight Sun Belt Conference foe with a 4-3 victory over North Texas.
This time, sophomore transfer Chanell Meijer played the role of hero as she clinched the match for the Cajuns. Down 3-1 in the third set, Miejer battled back to win 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 over Megan Schmulbach.
"All the girls showed a lot of fight today," associate head coach Lisa Jackson said. "This is something they have been working for all season long. I think that the win yesterday (over Arkansas State) gave us a lot of confidence."
The Cajuns started strong by sweeping the doubles point.
The team of Susan Linden and Kimmie Lyles finished first with an 8-2 victory over Ashley Sammis and Kelli Royer. Tammy Day and Meijer followed with an 8-5 victory at the No. 1 spot, defeating Krysta Lee and Katherine Harris. Celine VanWeydeveld and Thais Bortoletto knocked off Shmulbach and Aziza Aba Butain 9-8 (3).
In singles play, Day defeated Lee 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot while Lyles was the other Cajuns winner at the No. 5 spot, defeating Sammis 6-1, 6-1.
