LOUISIANA La. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team (8-5) defeated the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss (12-7) 6-1 Sunday at Cajun Courts.

"We didn't take them lightly," coach Justin McGrath said. "We knew they were talented and we came out and took care of business."

The Cajuns have won seven of their last eight since starting the season 1-4. They also boosted their home winning streak to 17 games, a streak that started three years ago after a loss to Southern Miss.

"I'm very proud of these guys," McGrath said. "After knocking off the 25th ranked team (Middle Tennessee) and defeating a good Southern Miss team, it's been a really neat week for Cajuns tennis."

The Cajuns started the afternoon off strong by winning the doubles point.

The team of Evghenii Corduneanu and Amanjot Singh won their match over 15th ranked Chris Rea and Reid Bourgeois 8-5. Dusan Tabak and Keire Abakar downed Marc Lux and Dylan Mezey 8-4.

In singles, Tabak stretched his win streak to 7 as he defeated Lux 7-6, 6-2. Singh defeated Rea 6-3, 6-3, while Shaun Ellison knocked off Juan Garzon 6-2, 6-3.

Also on the winning side for the Cajuns was Robin Ley and Abakar. They beat Reid Bourgeois and Mezey 6-3, 6-1 and 7-6, 6-4.
