Baseball experts say that a team's character is always in question until that team faces adversity and prevails.
If that is indeed the case, Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns answered the character question on Saturday by defeating the South Alabama Jaguars 6-5 in the second game of a three-game weekend Sun Belt Conference series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
After blowing a 4-1 ninth-inning lead, the Cajuns scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to capture a 6-5 win and their second victory over the Jaguars in as many days.
"We could have folded our tent, but we showed what we were made of," UL coach Tony Robichaux said. "You never like blowing a three-run lead in the ninth inning, but sometimes you need a game like this to see what kind of a team you really have."
With the win, the Cajuns improved to 22-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while South Alabama fell to 14-11, and 0-2.
The Cajuns will go after their first season-opening conference series sweep since 2000 (against, ironically enough, South Alabama) when they take on the Jaguars at 1 p.m. today.
