Tracking the Preaux Career of Orien Greene

I used to love watching Orien. He would shut anyone down then take it the other way for a lay up. I still think if he hadn't fouled out of the first round of the tourney his senior year we would have beat Louisville (who made it to the final 4) and then probably would have beat a mediocre Georgia Tech team in the 2nd round. Oh what could have been. Hopefully we can have that kind of action back in the Dome in the coming years.

Didn't Greene come off the bench for ya'll? Or was that in his junior year?

Still thought he was the best player in the SBC, and looks like I was correct. _

He came off the bench in his junior year as he became eligible at mid season and no the starting rotation had been established by then. Starting is over rated. Who finishes is what counts and he was always in the game at crunch time. His first two years he played at Florida.

Good Point. I guess we won't see him play for the first 70 or so games of the season. If they make the playoffs, then his definsive skills will finally get noticed.

Actually, the idea that defense is not played in the NBA is one of the biggest misconceptions in sports. The NBA problem right now is how physical the game has become and how much scoring has decreased. That is why TV ratings are down. If more teams played like the Phoenix Suns, the sport would regain it's popularity. People who can shoot but have physical shortcomings don't even get a look in the NBA. Anyone who is a defensive liability has no shot to make a team as opponents will target him for isolation by the offense.

CM, The level of defense played during the first 3/4ths plus of the season is nowhere near the level played at the end of the season and during the playoffs. Todays players may represent the more physical athlete, but the schemes don't call for much defense to be played.

Perhaps the scoring would increase if many of the league's average shooters would be forced to make a pass and work a play instead of shooting so many bad shots from 3.

This is where you could see Orien was head and shoulders above most all of the competition while at UL.

Assuming Orien makes the Kings roster, fans in Louisiana should get to see him in the season opener. They play the Hornets in New Orleans and I believe Cox Sports will carry the game.

I was at a bar on Friday night and noticed the Kings were on ESPN. Did anyone watch this or note any highlights and how OG performed?

They are right about JL III getting cut from the Rockets. The word over here is that he will be the odd man out. but I don't know that he has the game or at least the game experience to beat out OG. OG might not be a starter yet, but this is his oppurtunity, like the article said, so hopefully he can do something with it.

Reggie Theus is refusing to officially name his starting point guard for Wednesday night's season opener at New Orleans, but the identity of the mystery man was obvious while watching practice.
Orien Greene will start in Mike Bibby's usual spot alongside Kevin Martin. The move makes sense because the 6-foot-4 Greene is a better defender and ballhandler than Quincy Douby, and he matches up better against the cat-quick Chris Paul, Tony Parker and Devin Harris, the starting lead guards for the Kings' first three opponents in New Orleans, San Antonio and Dallas, respectively.
