EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – It was seen as somewhat of a revelation when Celtics players began whispering over the weekend that rookie Orien Greene could be the starting point guard by the end of the season. But Doc Rivers moved his foot toward the accelerator on that issue last night.
Greene came off the bench behind Delonte West but played the majority of the minutes in a 118-116 overtime loss to the Nets. Dan Dickau was pried from the pine for just the last 2:15 of overtime after West fouled out.
``It's probably the way it's going to be for right now,'' Rivers said. ``Orien and Delonte have played so well.''
So West starts and Greene is the first sub?
``Right now – or it could be the other way around,'' Rivers said. ``That hasn't been decided.''
Moments later, Greene, who had 10 points and seven assists in 37:45, said he didn't mind coming off the bench.
``He's going to play whoever he feels is best for the situation,'' said the second-round draft pick. ``We're just going to go out there and keep working hard in practice. Whoever he wants to start is who he's going to start.''
