Football traditions?

One tradition reguarding the band that hasn't been seen this year and won't be seen is the halftime show involving the percussion rack. That's the one halftime show during the year that I won't leave my seat to go take a whiz. One of my friends in the band said they won't be doing the percussion rack show this year which is really sad. Really I don't understand why either. Considering that for the past 3 home games I've heard the exact same Alice Cooper, school's out for summer and Black Sabbath's Crazy Train songs for every halftime show. You would think that we could get something a little different for each show considering that School IS in session and Summer is actually over.

I just overheard on one of my coworkers radios the "40 lb. duck song". If for some reason we ever get to play Oregon here at the swamp, that has to be the song to play. Even though the duck gets away.

The canon, if it can be reinstated, would be good (or a shotgun, if that works, cause afterall you can't shoot a duck with a canon).

Correction, you can shoot a duck with a cannon. It just wouldn't be pretty.(for the duck)

Besides that... those old school rock tunes do not make good marching band tunes. The best arrangements for marching bands are latin arrangements. The UL band was strong many years ago, dropped radically for some reason (I heard scholarships had something to do with it), and I think has come back up to a good level. Whatever they choose to play, they need to move away from rock tune arrangements. It becomes dang close to sounding like a podunk highschool band if you don't play it extremely well (loud and clean). They also introduce Crazy Train as a Black Sabbath tune. That's an Ozzie tune, NOT when he was with Black Sabbath.

I, personally, would like to the see the band be the main cheerleader. I remember going to college football games and when the band would go down at halftime the entire crowd would die down. If we had something like that over here, I believe it would attract more people.

Also another tradition to try out it 7pm gametimes. If you started the game later you would get more "Ragin" Cajuns at the game. As evidenced by Saturday's game we had alot of people but the stadium was very quiet. I believe that if it would have been a night game the other team wouldn't have been able to hear themselves think.

It would not be a Ragin Cajun football/basketball game without "Respect". I don't have a memory of Ragin Cajun Football game without hearing "Respect" or "Hey Baby". I even had the band at my wedding play "Hey Baby" and the wedding party danced to it.

At some point the band Planned the old Budweiser Tune. This Buds For You. Does anyone remember that.

Is it just me or does the only cheer that the crowd get into is Here We Go Cajuns, Here We Go. Clap Clap

What are our cheers after touchdowns, First Downs, Big Plays. I mean we need a concerted effort to get the folks who are sitting on their hands to be oddballs.

Baseball we have cneterfield. Their was an effort many moons ago to make it that way.

I know in Houston I was sitting in front of a longtime season ticket holder he was sitting on his hands and he was very reserve with sly comments early in the game. I think he stomped his feet as hard as I did in the end.

We've had 7pm starts in previous years. This year is the first to do a consistent 4pm. What do you mean "try out 7pm start times"? I think a 5:30 start would be perfect.

I think 5:30 would be a nice compromise. I grew up in the 7PM era, and that's what I consider "normal". I don't mind 4PM; but it just doesn't have the same feel to it. Granted, my old body enjoys getting home and being able to relax a little before hitting the sack; but I've always enjoyed "night football" in the swamp.

I agree with trying to bring the Cajun Chicken back. Now im only 16 but the things I remember most as a little kid is the Cajun Chicken. The Red - White chant, his vodoo outfit, and the microphone in the other teams huddle during b-ball games were a few personal favs.
