Football traditions?

Several of the Greek organizations have tailgating spots very close to the route of the Cajun Walk. They do not stop their partying and leave their spots for the Cajun Walk or to go to the game. The alienation of the student body and many alums by the failure of previous admins (jury is still out on this admin) to give them a program they can be proud of is to blame. Unfortunately if the current admin does not give change that soon the apathy will carry over as these current students become alumni.

sororities actually have tailgate parties at city bar. How you have a tailgate party not at the tailgate site is beyond me but that kind says a lot about the disconnect there.

_ Ya know when we are about to kickoff, and everyone is yelling "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" and the ball is kicked and then we do an even louder "OHHH"? Get what I'm sayin? Well. What about this. When we're about to kickoff, why not we all go "UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" with our arms in the shape of a U. And when we DO kickoff, we yell "L" with our arms in the shape of an L. Kinda like a YMCA thing. I think this would be really cool. _

SOUNDS/LOOKS GREAT TO ME!!!! -MY FAVORITE WAS THE CRAZY GUY WITH THE DRUM-------He would hit it and one side of the field would go Ragin and the other Cajun and then he would trick the folks and point to a different side ---anyway got the fans INVOLVED!!!!!!

Use to really enjoy the blocking off of Mckinley Street for the Friday afternoon "Pep Rally" at the KEG.....Cheerleaders on the roof top of the KEG and the beer trucks in the parking lot....guess that hasn't been done in a while....but it sure got the students worked up to go to the game on Saturday night.....do they still have a pep rally on Fridays before the home games....and the Yell Like Hell for the student organizations....

I'm pretty sure they don't have pep rallies on Fridays before the games, but they do have Yell Like Hell (but not for every home game). I could be wrong; if I am wrong, UL isn't doing too good of a job in the promotion department. We did have a Ragin' Roar earlier this year in the Student Union parking lot though, had a few activities going on and they actually sold beer.

Yea, sorry. We have Yell Like Hell this week too, but I think we had one during welcome week also at the Blackham. I think this week's Yell Like Hell will be at Parc International. I'm a bit scatterbrained right now.

_ Don't hate the band, hate the director. Its not the band that decides what to play in the stands. Our band council (band students) do decide what we play for the halftime show though. I have to say, I've seen a lot of college bands, and they play a lot of the same things we play in the stands. If you've ever been to a basketball game, we barely play anything we play in the stands at the football games. Its harder, and is much better, but we have a whole lot less people. You underestimate how hard it is to be in the marching band. It's not easy to get 240 people to do anything together, much less play and march. No, we're not the best marching band in college, but we're not the worst, and we do our best. We want to have fun at the games too.

To what some people said about playing the same halftime show over and over. You can just up and learn a new show. Its not that easy. We have learned two different songs to add to the shows for the rest of the season. Next year, we are going to try and do two different, contrasting shows.

Basically, you want better shows, support the band more. I invite all of you to go to the Showcase of Marching Bands next year and watch us preform. The home side is usually full and all cheering for the band. Look at how much better we do and how much more enthusiam we put into the show, just because we have that energy to feed off of.

To you who complained about the old school rock show this year. It's better than broadway show tunes like we did last year.

And we've played Respect at every game this season. _

It would be neat if we could come up with something like the Ohio State band and "Dot the i" or like Texas A&M's band doing their intricate march at half time as a traditional half time show. Maybe we could march back and forth across the field forming an "L" and then shadow the "L" with the state of Louisiana and have someone dot it with a Fleur de Lis where Lafayette is, followed by our Alma Mater and fight song incorporating the spelling of C-A-J-U-N-S in it so the fans could sing it out. And, EVERY half time is the same, so there is nothing new to have to learn each week. Just a thought, but I would think some creative minds could come up with something that would be the start of a great tradition.

Another tradtion to start would be to have the band form an "L" through which the team runs at the start of each game, from the tunnel through the "L" onto the field. We are LOUISIANA. Let's use the "L" in more of what we do. It is LEGAL, it is distinctive especially when shadowed by the state of Louisiana, it is legally marketable, and it says who we are.

_ ONe of my all time favorite traditions was the cannon blast after a score at the UL football games. It's sad that the cannon is no longer with us. Does anyone know what happened to it? _

If I'm not mistaken, cannons at football stadiums are usually used at War Memorial Stadiums like at the University of Texas. Not sure of their relevance otherwise.

_ I would like to see us get rid of the respect song after a touchdown and replace it with a Cajun tune. Even when I was a student I hated and never understood why we played respect as a fight song. Surely the creative people of Acadiana can come up with something better. _

And, let's find a way to incoporate the yelling of C-A-J-U-N-S into a song so the fans can get into the game. They spell T-E-X-A-S at UT and T-I-G-E-R-S at LSU and do similar things at other schools. We need to get the fans more into the game and this would fire them up.

Hi Cajunbander......you do a great job. I come inas early as possible so I can see the boys warm up and listen to you play. I like the song you play after the touchdowns. Don't listen to the whiners ....if they have nothing to complain about they make something up.

I think the band does a hell of a job. My only complaint is that it isn't loud enough on the field. Is it because of the acoustics in that the field is not a bowl and has openings at either end? I was at the LSU/McNeese game and both bands were extremely loud. I always assumed LSU was louder than UL because the band was so much larger, but when I heard McNeese, they were almost as loud with a lot fewer members. When UL plays I almost have to strain to hear them (not that they don't sound good, becuase they do). Anyway, just curious.

Probably just need more brass in the band and do away with the flutes and xylophones that don't create much volume.
