Thread: Campus Construction

    Louisiana Campus Campus Construction

I have started to take photos on a weekly basis starting last weekend to chronicle the demolition of the Credit union building and Denbo and Bancroft halls. (I have not been able to figure out how to post photos on this site or I would post them here) (I have posted the first photos on the Hamilton Laboratory group in Facebook) The Credit Union building is in a pile as of today. Denbo and Bancroft are slowly losing their facade. Lemoine Company is the general contractor. G H Griffin is the Demolition subcontractor (The same contractor that Demolished Voorhies and the other dorm several years ago). Van Champagne with Lemoine said they were looking into imploding Denbo and Bancroft. I don't think that will happen given that they are so close to Hamilton Hall and the houses righ across Tulane avenue are pretty close too.

They have finished the Geopiles on the dorm being built on the old parking lot area. They have started installation of the mechanical lines for that building today. (If work keeps up at this pace they will be finished before the Softball stadium).

Four oak tress and one sycamore tree were cut down the week before Christmas.

They have redesigned the new dorm to be built where Bonin Hall is now to save the Oak trees at the corner of University and McKinley. They will start to "Root prune" the oak tree near Buchanan hall in an attempt to move it early next year.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments.

When T-Joe took the expansions to the Regents, he was hammered about the economy, and how this was not a good idea at this time.

He responded that with interest rates so low, and with the pick of construction companies in the state who would give him rock-bottom prices, this was exactly the time for UL to build.

They didn't like it, but they had no answer for him.

When you think about it, UL adding 2,000 beds when all the other colleges are trying to figure out how to keep their doors open, has to be pretty unsettling for them.

It's a pretty loud warning shot.

I went to campus yesterday to pay tuition and parked on the side of the road behind the Union. The Credit Union was still up, but they had equipment all around it. When I got back only the two columns that were in front were standing.

I took it with my iPhone, so it's not great, but here ya go.

If you upload them to a site like flickr, it's real easy to post the pics on here. Once you upload them, there's a share button where you can email them, or copy them to message board like this. All you have to do is copy the code they give you and post it in the message box on here.

    Flickr's free, here's the website: www.flickr.com

The demolition crew was working in Bancroft hall. It looks like all the asbestos has been removed from both buildings.

The Band practice field has been totally covered with geotextile and about 8" of limestone.

The old parking lot adjacent to Denbo and Bancroft was removed and the first new dorm is under construction while Denbo and Bancroft are being demolished.

    Lemoine company understands Critical Path.

The design of the student union is being done now. I don't think they are far enough along to release final renderings. I delivered my work to the Architect on OK Allen Renovation in Late summer and they have started to do work there already. They will totally gut the building and renovate it for the Health Services center. Once that is finished then they will be free to demolish the exiting Health services building and start the Student Union Renovation.

Rudick Construction is doing the OK Allen renovation work. They will do a good job. I went to high school with Gary and his company does very good work.

I must say, It's weird to see all this work being done. Because of band, I've been hanging around that part of campus for about 5 years. I was weird to see the parking tower go up where we used to practice. My current roomate and some other friends used to live in the Twin Towers. Now, all the buildings are coming down. I think it's cool that all the progress is going on, but it's weird to see all the familiar things going down.

I almost got a job at the credit union during the summer. Boy am I glad that fell through. Where is the Credit union right now?

My wife and I are both UL(USL) grads and are wondering why Allumni are not allowed to join the UL Credit Union. I was told by a UL Credit Union employee that only UL staff and students can join.

While a student I did not have money to join, now that I do have some money, I am told I can't join.

Would be nice move for the Alumn to be able to join, don't you think?

USL (1960-1983) (1985-1998) Re: Campus Expansions

    That would be nice.
Frankly, I was surprised to learn that UL students can now join the UL Credit Union.
When I was in school the students were not allowed! Did the policy change under Dr. Savoie? I wouldn't be surprised.
