    More new dorms.

Demolition of Huger, Baker, Bonin and Evangeline should start in earnest next week. Griffin would not have moved two large pieces of equipment on site just to let them sit.

Evangeline hall soon to be renovated.

    evangeline

Truss joist for new Huger Hall stored on Boucher Street near old Huger hall.

Arches on new Baker Hall, similar to arches on many of the older buildings on campus.

New Baker on left, Hamilton to the rear and middle and New Huger (I assume) on right.

Mc Kinley street facade on June 11, 2011. The guys in the lift are placing high performance caulking in the joints between the precast panels.

I found out today that D-Day for completion of new Baker and the Parking Garage is August 11. It aught to be interesting to see if they make it.

Major disruption if they don't as the Housing office already has people scheduled to be living in new Baker. Given what I've seen from this contractor and the talk around campus, would really surprise if they don't meet their deadline.

Asbestos removal continues at Old Baker, Huger, Bonin and Evangeline so not too much to see there. I am assuming the second dorm being built behind Hamilton is New Huger hall I will call it that until I know otherwise. These are some photos of that building

Hamilton Hall is on the right with the parking garage in the middle and to the rear

    huger1

New Huger hall at the corner of Tulane and Taft

    huger2

New Baker on the left Hamilton to the rear and middle and new Huger on the right. The brick work on New Baker is almost finished. I saw about 6 airless paint sprayers either finished or ready to go and there were some ceiling fans installed on the fourth floor.

New Baker hall on 6-18-11. A precast double "T" floor slab section is being delivered for the parking garage. Less and less material and storage units on this part of the site. They are starting to complete the drainage culverts and inlets. You can really see the difference between the cleaned and uncleaned brick work.

    baker6-18-11

Cleaning the brick veneer. Note the arches at the entrance. They will be placing concrete for the entry porch soon and then placing decorative columns around the steel in the foreground. The decorative columns are stored on site.

Ready to lift a precast double "T" section.

    ready-to-lift

Flying it into place. Note the guy on the ground with a tag line. Good thing it wasn't too windy today.

    flying

Almost there and ready to catch.

    catch

Muscling the section into place. Safety inspector must be off today, he doesn't have his yellow vest on.

    muscle

    There it is.

    done

They will be building out the middle section and the west section together because the crane won't have enough room to swing.
