SPRINGFIELD, La. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team will participate in the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate here today and Tuesday at the Carter Plantation Country Club. The three-round event is hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University.

Last season, UL finished second in the event, led by a third-place, one-over-par finish from Craig Trahan. The Cajuns finished eight strokes behind the host SLU Lions.

Steven Pena is the only current Cajuns golfer that participated in the event last season. Pena shot an 11-over-par 227 en route to a 23rd-place finish.

"We played well at this tournament last year," UL coach Bob Bass said. "This is a difficult shot-makers course, but we have the ability to play very well this week."

Three freshmen will compete for the Cajuns - Michael Smith, Morgan Landry and Justin Lowe - along with two veterans in Peter Badawy and Pena.

"We will have three freshmen in the line-up this week and they are all talented."
