    2) With a bases loaded, two out, 3-2 count, everyone was running on the wind-up.
    3) Alvarez was pitching from the windup (not the stretch), allowing Fontenot a huge jump.
    4) On the wild pitch (ball four) that got past the catcher, Fuselier did not need to hustle in for the score as it was a bases loaded walk. But he was moving on the pitch and fortunately Fontenot did not run up Fuselier's back-side (risking Fontenot passing him on the play). Passing Fuselier would have been a disaster.
    5) Fontenot slides into home on a bang-bang play. I wonder if the ump even realized that there was a second Cajun runner attempting to score on the play ... as Fuselier and Fontenot were clustered together. He seemed a bit confused on the play.

Fontenot scoring not only gives the Cajuns the lead, but paves the way for a third run on a subsequent single.

When the play was over the FAU pitcher was jawing with the Cajun Bench. Prior to that play he had plunked a Cajun in the back and was fairly cocky about it with an heavy set of nodding as if to say thats what I wanted to do... So there was some jawing. Shortly thereafter he was pulled from the game which I was glad to see. he had been outstanding to that point. I was seated next to an FAU fan who said this happens to him. When things are going well he is almost unhittable but loses his cool quickly...

Well ... the Cajun that Alvarez plunked (Fontenot) was the Cajun that scored the second run on that play. A lot of good Alvarez's little rant did him.

If Arkansas State can salvage a game against Troy (two one run losses to Troy thus far this weekend), the Cajuns can pull to within one game of the league leaders. ASU and Troy are tied 3-3 T5th in Jonesboro.

UALR takes the series with an 11-6 win over Western Kentucky. The Cajuns and WKU are tied for second in the Sun Belt standings at 6-3.

Arkansas State is trying to lose its third one run game against Troy this weekend. The game is tied 3-3 with Troy batting in the T9th, runners on 1st and 2nd, and one out.

After blowing a two run lead in the T9th, Middle Tennessee scored two in the B10th on a two-run shot to defeat South Alabama 13-11 and take 2/3 from the Jagaurs (the only two wins in conference for Middle).

Troy was the beneficiary of ASU's fourth error of the day, breaking a 3-3 tie in the T9th with two runs. ASU loaded the bases with one out in the B9th, but could do no more. Troy sweeps ASU with the 5-3 win.

Sun Belt Standings (through this weekend) ...

    Troy 8-1, 22-5
    Western Kentucky 6-3, 17-11
    Louisiana 6-3, 16-11
    Florida Atlantic 5-4, 17-11
    Florida International 4-5, 18-12
    South Alabama 4-5, 14-13
    Louisiana-Monroe 4-5, 15-11
    Arkansas-Little Rock 4-5, 13-14
    Arkansas State 2-7, 12-18
    Middle Tennessee 2-7, 8-18

Heard he had to get 11 stitches above his nose ( i guess his brow), a concussion, and some swelling that prevented him from opening one of his eyes. Good news was he was at the game this morning giving the umps the lineup before the game. Got a pretty good round of applause afterwards too. That was one of the loudest beanings ive ever witnessed. I was sitting at the end of the 3rd base bleachers and i said it had to have hit his helmet cause if that noise was his face he'd be unconscious or worse. It was that loud. Glad to see hes up and around.

We had someone hit like that a few years back. Can't remember who but it hit the brim of the batting helmet broket it and deflected and hit his face. Bad bruise and swelling. Hard to imagine him taking it straight on.

From the view I had from behind home plate the ball seemed to either hit Marvel or hit his bat. Everyone around me was completely surprised that it wasn't called an HBP or a foul ball. So it was ruled ball 4 and a passed ball. Hell, one of our runners never touched the plate, probably Fuselier. The ump behind the plate was utterly clueless. His strike zone was pretty strange and his calls were just dumbfounding. Ump at first was just as bad. Typical weekend in the Belt. Subpar calls.

This goes a little further back. But I remember Kevin McDonald hitting an Arkansas player (in the jaw?) at the Dixie College Classic in Shreveport (1989). There was much blood at home plate.

Actually I just watched the replay of that crazy play on katc news and I slowed it down on my dvr, and fuselier clearly touches homeplate just half a second before fontenot slides into the plate as well. Now, whether or not the ball glanced off of marvel (or his bat) is a different issue, VERY hard to tell either way. But ump was staring right at marvel when it happened and he quickly backs away from plate when fuse and fontenot come in (and he was looking at the play the whole time) so I think the right call was made for both runs to score. Thank you for capabilities of a dvr, wouldnt imagine life without one!
But, very weird play overall. Lol
