MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Denver men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Shootout with a 4-1 win over Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday afternoon at Buck Boldin Tennis Center.
The Pioneers improved to 5-12 and advanced to the semifinals against Florida Atlantic late Saturday night. ULL falls to 4-9.
DU rallied for the doubles point with victories from Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) and Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) at No. 1 and Enej Bonin (Koper, Slovenia) and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria).
Vorkefeld beat Robert Voss 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to give DU a 2-0 lead. No. 55 Bonin beat Carlin Murray 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 to make it 3-0.
After a Lafayette win at No. 6 singles, Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) clinched the match with a 6-1, 7-6(5) win at No. 5 singles.
