    Default Sun Belt softball

Cajuns regain the conference lead without playing. South Alabama splits with Middle, Florida International splits with Troy and Florida Atlantic splits with Monroe. Western double dips North Texas.

    Cajuns 5-1
    South Alabama 6-2
    FIU 6-2
    Monroe 7-4
    FAU 5-3
    Western 3-5
    Middle 5-9
    Troy 2-6
    UNT 2-9

Thanks for the info. I also noticed outside conference play Georgia Tech won twice and Baylor beat #8 Mizzou (they have lost to FIU and UNT respectively)

The next two series' for the Cajuns could give us a good bump in RPI (FIU then South Alabama)

South AL & FIU keep pace with victories today, FAU passes up Monroe for fourth. I think we have our separation between the top & bottom of the conference. Looks like Middle, Western, North & Troy will battle at the bottom to see who stays home in May. FAU & Monroe are dangerous, but USA & FIU appear to be our main competition for the championship. Both teams are going to have to get on major winning streaks if they have any post season aspirations. USA has no top 50 victories nor do they have any games left against the top 50, except for us. FIU at least has victories over Georgia Tech but their record is poor. FIU has one more game they can hang their hat on: they go to Gainesville for a single game with the Gators.

    Cajuns 5-1
    USA 7-2
    FIU 7-2
    FAU 6-3
    ULM 7-5
    MTSU 5-10
    WKU 3-6
    UNT 3-9
    Troy 2-7

FIU better hope Florida's pitching woes are still around when they play. UF is hurting right now they've lost 6 straight

lcitsh, do you remember there being this many teams to 20 wins so soon in the SBC?

I'm not sure that pitching is going to be a factor for FIU. They won 8-3 in Gainesville last season and the Panthers have to know they will need this win for their post season resume.

It's taking a little longer than I expected, but the Sun Belt teams are starting to come around. There are good coaches in this league and some have started to upgrade their schedules, even beating a few good opponents. In 2008 there were 3 teams with winning records, in 2009 there 4 with one @ .500, and last year there were 5. There is a chance for as many as 7 teams this year to have winning records. The league is getting better, now it will be necessary to get multiple teams in post season play and more than just us to win regionals.
