Concession Prices

The difference is that our concessions shouldn't be priced the same as we are not paying for the player's salaries of the New Orleans Saints. We have athletes and they are not paying for tuition, they are on scholarship (most of them anyway). $8.50 for a 32 oz beer is not a good deal when I can buy a 12 pack of beer for that price.

I don't think you should be able to get beer for $.50 but $3-4 seems fair. The whole point of going to these games is to have a good time and if it breaks me to go to games then i can promise you that I am not going to have a good time. I'm not looking for things to be free but make them at least reasonably priced.

I have taken my family to a UL basketball and Hornets game this year. I spent just as much money at a UL game as I did a a Hornets game. Now I did get 10 more ounces of beer at the Cajundome, but other than that the prices were the same.

I would say get a new caterer, but I think these prices are are just part of having D1A teams.

I go to football, basketball, baseball, and a few softball games. I dont think the concession prices should cost as much as price a ticket into the game. I dont mind spending $8 on a beer and $10 food/drink per family member if I only going to a single game(Saints/Hornets). If the goal is improve season ticket sells and gain Cajun fans we should realize the true cost of taking the family to the games.

How about water........$35 a gallon......the mark up on water is so damn high it rediculus. I heard somewhere that the cost to produce one bottle of water is less than 5 cent.

Then boycott drinking at the games.

If you feel like its too expensive... forgo buying beer at games. Maybe if enough people do it.. the price will go down.

_ Quintess catering used to have the contract, they did a pretty good job if you ask me, I know they did the cajundome, not sure if they did the tigue but I would imagine they did but sodexo sucks bad

In 2005, Artisan catering(which is the Cajundomes catering company) took over all Sodexho contracts. Artisan was running all concessions for Ul sporting events, with the exception of softball and track, who did their own. Sodexho had all of the catrering and food sales on UL campus, and they eventually won the sporting events also. They do not have the Cajundome, since it is a private venue. The reason we use an outside company to run the concessions, is because it is a pain in the butt to run. The coaches and or staff do not have to do any work or fron any costs and get a piece of the profits. That is also why the costs are so high. The company has to pay a piece of the profits to UL, absorb food and labor costs, and still manage to make a profit. even with that, the prices are ridiculous. With artisan, the prices were high, but at least you got a decent value. they even had a few things that were priced reasonably. Sodexho charges an arm and a leg and you see no value out of it.

I have and will continue to do so but it's not just the beer prices that are high. I want to support the university and want to buy concessions at the respective sports venue but if you bring your family and it costs $60+ for a few hamburgers and soft drinks thats ridiculous. I understand hiring a caterer and that it's less hassle for the University. The margins on draft beer or almost as ridiculously high as soft drinks.

I think I will join the cooking club because at the end of the day it's better food, better service and much cheaper.

Are all those concession workers paid? Because I remember growing up with many high school and college organizations volunteering for concessions work. I'm sure that's cheaper than hiring workers?
I understand the concept of inflation and I can't expect food costs to stay what they were in the 90's (2.50 for a burger) but having a middle man (like catering companies) and employees to pay per event (sometimes even short staffed for crucial games) just seems to drive costs up. Is this the first time this catering company has ever had to be in charge of concessions for university athletics?

I am not sure about sodexho, buit I would bet most of those people are paid employees.

Every time I go to get nachos from the concessions, I have this slight hope that they will turn around with my tray of tasty nacho rounds and head towards the old cheese pouring container machine. They always just head to their heated cabinet, and pull out a small 0.002 fl oz. container of cheese dip.

It is always a sad moment in my life.

Why don't they use high school boosters (sports/cheerleaders/bands) it's free labor! Give them a % of sales but they still don't need an hourly rate, plus they could Over staff concessions for no additional cost.
