Thread: Why The Layoff?

    Default Why The Layoff?

Does anyone know why the softball team has a 9 day layoff between their previous game and the next one? Obviously, its not for finals or anything like that. Is that long of a break normal? It seems to me that players could lose some of their "mojo" by not playing for that long.

Don't know why. But we can definitely use it. Lots of nagging injuries, specifically hamilton and broussard.

Yeah, didnt consider that angle. Just seems odd to not play on a weekend. Especially during the middle of the conference season.

To give other players in the conference a chance to win pitcher, hitter & player of the week in the SBC, we seem to dominate the weekly SBC awards!!

I believe that is just how the schedule worked out. I know M. Lotief said he was not at all pleased with it. In an interview a couple of days ago he expressed concern about losing momentum.

Both UL and FIU agreed to play in the middle of the week so that they both could participate in tournaments at the beginning of the year. By doing this it allowed UL to take part in the Judi Garmin Classic and for FIU to participate in a tournament in south Florida. They agreed to play in the middle of the week.

In addition to that, each team gets one week off due to the uneven number of softball programs in the SBC. Some schools would much rather have bowling teams!LOL!!!
